Is Tomorrow the Day for Android 2.??

You have to cut them a little slack. Android is brand new to them and totally foreign. Most of them have had time to get used to blackberry and winmo devices. Until the droid line nobody but t-mobile had Android. They are still learning and it probably won't be until the second generation droids that they start to get it. Remember that many of them are coming here to learn, so it can be a lot like the blind leading the blind. The guy that helped me with my phone even told me I had to install ATK or my phone wouldn't run. They will learn.

I dunno ... I formed that opinion long before I moved to the Android platform.

The thing that bugs me most about them is that they never seem to want to admit that they aren't in the know ... they always want to act like they have an answer, even when they don't. Hence things like that "install ATK" statement they gave you, or all that incorrect/contradictory info on 2.1 that's been reported here over the last few days.

That is a sales mentality. For some reason they are programed to think I don't know is a sign of weakness. It is one of the reasons I could never do sales. I don't like telling people bad info.

hollysh*t!!!! is that why i'm a business oriented person???? (btw i dont mind selling my soul to the devil if i can make a profit out of the deal lol )

u've given me so much insight today :D:D:D

I don't like telling people bad info.

I did a customer service job for 5 years where customers would call in and report problems with their cable tv/hsd/phone. Most of the time, the information I was provided from the company was inaccurate, untimely, and just plain wrong. My coworkers and I laughed every time we received "updated" information because 9 times out of 10, it just corrected the previous day's update.

When one of our areas was hit by a major natural disaster, we were instructed by the company to tell our customers that "A technician is working in your area (somewhere) and your service should be restored as soon as possible" even though the main office, relay stations, repeaters, EVERYTHING was totally destroyed and the company had no earthly idea of when, or even if, the service would be restored. After about a month of repeating this information, even my customers told me the company had no intention of ever restoring the service, but I had to reassure them that we cared. I quit shortly afterward.

ok so i see the topic has drifted amazingly away from the original subject so... i figured i'd try to steer it back on track...and it just occurred to me that maybe..just maybe if we come up with an idea to make the update happen...so i got ONE!!! (one idea that is...)

check this out...how'bout we get the droid (or Eris, G1 or whatever device) and we put it in a close room with the most recent update (android 2.1) and we soften up the mood so they can...well you know...get "acquainted" and pbly we'll have better results!!! And i just happened to have the best ambiance song for that: CHECK IT OUT===> ;););)

I run into this a lot with different companies. They give out the same song and dance about caring and working on the issue, but I know as well as they do that it is total crap. I wish people would just be honest about this stuff. If you don't know, then tell me that. If it is going to take 6 hours, don't tell me soon. 6 hours is not soon to me when I am waiting on repairs.

Car mechanics and computer techs are the worst for girls. We get treated like total idiots. I once had a mechanic try to tell me my diesel Volkswagen needed a tune up. He even tried to charge me for it.

they were pbly trying to get the carburetor cleaned :D:D:D

They do get tune ups. Just google "diesel tune ups."

I've found mechanics who refer to routine diesel maintenance as tune-ups (checking timing belt/chain, checking/changing oil/filters, fluid flushes, etc). But, at least among the disreputable gear-heads with whom I spend time, a "tune-up" in gasoline engine parlance typically involves checking/changing pieces of the ingition system (change plugs/wires, ignition cap/coil, etc) whose diesel counterparts don't require any lovin' (no need to check/change glow plugs or grid heaters unless they stop working, really).

And, if I'm not completely mistaken, the name tune-up itself comes from tuning of valve timings, which is something you don't really need to worry about so much on a diesel.

Anyway, I'm not disagreeing with you. Just playing the Monday morning semantic nazi :) Apparently having a hard time forcing myself to be productive this dreary Monday morning.

Also, a friend of mine was once offered something called an "engine shampoo" for $50, on her 6-month-old car. Luckily, she has a pretty acute bullshit sensor, so she shot them down. But still, yeesh.

Why, do you not give diesel engines "tuneups?"

Sorry, I was referring to a tuneup in the conventional manner. The type where they change your plugs and wires. This is what the mechanic was trying to charge me for. A diesel "tune up" is mostly changing filters, checking fluids, hoses and belts which I typically did myself. The mechanic I was talking about actually claimed to have already changed the plugs and wires and tried to charge me for it. Anyone who has ever owned a diesel knows that they don't have plugs and wires....well ok.....maybe wires but not those types of wires. ;)

Yeah. I'm with you on the actual, true "tune up" of an engine meaning plugs, points, wires and timing, etc.

I drove truck OTR for six years.. left most of the under-the-hood stuff to the mechs back in the shop. ;)

That was back when diesel fuel was half the price of gasoline (betraying my age now :D).

My all time favorite is the engine flush. No better way to waste money and screw up your car at the same time. :D

And to be on topic for a second.....anybody get an update?

59 minutes since they only allow an hour, lol.

Some background info: I weighed 243lbs (I'm 6') in June. I've lost 30+ since then. I used to lift a lot but now that I'm older (38) I concentrate more on cardio so the goal I set for myself was to do this 5k that's part of the Myrtle Beach Marathon. If I had to put a time on it, I'd say 30 minutes. This is the first running event I've done in about 15 years so I'm not looking to set records, lol.

Haha 59 minutes..as long as you finish, right? I totally understand that. My first bike race was a 45 mile ride in probably the hilliest area in Florida..The guy who finished first did it under 3 hours..I was like 2 hours after him :)

Don't feel too bad. This thread has been read 11,369 times. Unless you are just reading it A LOT, you are not the only one.

My sister's boyfriend bought an Eris late last week, and by Sunday had a solid list of questions for me. After we'd sorted out his contact syncing and how to transfer music and all that crap, his last questions were: "so, we're going to be getting 2.1 really soon, right? Have you heard anything?"

So, nobody should feel bad about being anxious for news on 2.1. Apparently, update hysteria is now included free with every Eris sold.

Well, it's so tied in with the Motorola Droid, even to the point of giving a free Eris to new customers who purchase the Droid, that some new folks expect the Eris and Droid updates to be at the same exact time.

I know I did. :o

It's official...the release of 2.1 for Eris will be Feb 13th. I can 100% guarantee this date. I know for a fact this is the date.

How did I arrive at this date??

I pulled it out of my ass like everyone else on here has lol

Seriously...
