Is your Eris fast enough

I like mine but sometimes I do things faster than it can handle and it gets a bit laggy, anyone else notice this?
 
slightly, but not to the point where it annoys me or i think the phone sucks. i feel any lag will be greatly improved upon with the 2.0 update.
 
sometimes it seems to fall behind a bit, but it's a vast improvement over my old phone...and my internet is so slow at my apartment today that it actually loads pages faster than my laptop can.
 
Why do people think a software release can make a processor that runs at a certain speed suddenly run faster.

Because it is sometimes true based on the software becoming more efficient. My MacBook was noticeably faster after upgrading it to Snow Leopard. My Ubuntu desktop was noticeably faster going from 9.04 to 9.10. I've heard that going from Vista to 7 on the same hardware is noticeably faster.

Having said that, I am returning my Eris to Verizon today. I have done everything I can to make the phone faster. It is running faster after using the stock Android home screen instead of Sense and using the Dolphin browser instead of the default.

But it is simply not fast enough. The browser (including Dolphin) is just too slow on both 3G and wifi. The phone is noticeably slower after using Google Maps or the camera. Starting and switching apps takes forever.

The design of the phone and the software are excellent. The hardware it runs on is just too slow.

I'm debating on switching to a Droid or waiting for something better.

I don't like iPhones. They're too restrictive (un-jailbroken), not customizable and don't multitask. But the browser speed on a 3GS on wifi is incredible.
 
I know hardware is the most important factor in phone performance...but my good lesson was storm1. As horrible and slow it was released, its gotten really good with last update.

I personally would choose perfect hardware over software anyday! Software can be fixed...not hardware. :)
 
I too have used the Eris for over 2 weeks now. The lag with apps and calendar are very noticeable. Possibly some OS optimization can help but I fear that the processor may not be up to speed for this device. (maybe 2.0)

The Eris is easy to like though. It has "many" compelling features I enjoy and the Sense UI is to die for.

--- Weather (always current location)
--- Easy customization for screens and programs

If it weren't for the quirks ---
--- Visual voicemail (loud speaker only)
--- Copy/paste shortcomings
--- Small choice in Adroid market apps for Eris (nervous that Eris 1.5 OS will be left for this platform only --- no 2.0 update)

From how much I have read and researched, Eris will get 2.0 update...HTC is working on integrating it with Sense UI...and the 2 together will be a dream....

The visual voicemail app itself, is more carrier related....I know vzw one has many bugs....and also the copy/paste feature would be enhanced with software update....

So for now, I hear we will get an update to provide bug fixes on December 11th...and then eventually android 2.0. :)
 
Most of the time it's fast enough for me. When I want to make a call, I want instant response, and it tends to lag noticeably.

I went to a friend's house yesterday and wanted to make a quick call to let him know that I arrived. With my Razr, it's very quick to go to contacts, scroll down to his name, and hit Send. With the Eris, it lagged going into the call program and then lagged a ridiculous amount going into the contacts. I want to say it took over 20 seconds to place the call from the time I brought the phone out of standby.

Usually it's not this bad, but for some reason it was really slow to load the phone program and contact list for this call.
 
I do find it to be a little slow, but when I think about everything the phone can and is doing, I don't feel too bad.
 
I bought the Motorola Droid first, very fast but way too many problems :(. Last monday i figured i would give the Eris a chance. What a surprise this little phone is ;), no where near as slow as i expected, a little lag here and there, but not as bad as i thought it would be. Even if we don't get 2.0, or 2.0 does nothing for the speed, it's still a good little phone for the price.
 
The lag on the Eris bugged me a bit, but not a deal breaker. I was even "dealing" with the crashes (once was a soft-brick, and I had to remove the battery before the phone booted up).

The deal breaker was when my brother got the Droid. It is MUCH faster. Very little lag compared to the Eris IMO. I exchanged my Eris for a Droid on Wednesday...

The Eris is a great phone though, and I'm already missing certain things about it (more compact, lighter, Sense UI, etc.), but I'm going to stick with the Droid I think...

Sorry, Im not one to believe that rumors are going to make my phone better. If in fact the upgrade does make the device faster I guess we both win.
 
I occasionally find it a little laggy especially switching between portrait and landscape and in some apps. I'm glad I have until jan. 13 to decide whether I want to keep it or not. Hopefully we have a little more info on 2.0 in the next month as anything that we have now is kinda flaky.

Everywhere online I've searched and the Verizon rep. I bought my phone from said the only reason the Eris didn't ship with 2.0 was because HTC was working the kinks out of the OS and the sense UI and would make it available when it was ready.

This doesn't garauntee it will speed the Eris up any, but it's nice to see manufacturers following up on there products.

If you hate the Eris so much, take it back !

Operating systems, in particular, make a huge difference in operational speed of a device. There's no question that an updated version such as 2.0 can improve speed. If it actually WILL is another question.
 
So the Eris processor runs at 528MHz, and 2.0 is going to make it run at 800 or 1G like the Dragon or Moto?? I dont think so. But thank you as well:rolleyes:

Thanks for proving my point. You know very little about computers and software, obviously.

But I would like you to point me to the post where I or anyone else said anything of the sort.
