is your phone... "with Google"?

Found this is listed under the known issues on the Hero Support Page on sprint.com. At least they are officially acknowledging the issue.

We recently discovered that Sprint's HTC Hero is showing a static message which reads CDMA - EV-DO Rev 0 in its status settings whether or not the device is on Rev A speeds. In most cases, the device is performing on Rev A speeds even if the message reads Rev 0.
This message error is not impacting the performance of the device in any way and will be corrected with the next maintenance release. The handset is fully capable of EV-DO Rev. A data speeds and you will receive these speeds in Sprint

I've already seen everything that Sprint had to say and what HTC had to say.

Now will someone tell me why we are seeing differences? They cant be "the same" or they would all have the same problem. Seems pretty straight forward to me.

differences as in speed or what the phone says?

I guess I havent made myself clear.

I would like to know what is different in the phones that are only reporting back Rev 0 v/s. those that report back Rev A.

Explaining it away as a visual bug is all fine and well, but surely there is a difference between them that causes certain handsets to experience this.

it can be many different things, from shipping times, to getting stuck on a specific visual label. anything.

I think Edaze means what specific glitch in the software is causing the "non-google" ones to show the Rev0. I too would like to know, because i don't want some quick fix from Sprint that merely changes the icon to say RevA...even if its not.

Uh, what? Shipping would have nothing to do with what Im referring to.

It has to be something specific to the software, or hardware. I want to rule out the hardware, at least I hope all that is the same. Which only leaves software. If thats the case, they already have updated software that some of us might not see for weeks.

Sabre understands.

but is it confirmed that all or a majority of the with goodle phones have the rev a listing and none of the non google phones show rev a? theres no way to tell as the phone is too new and this thread doesnt have the responses to justify a logical theory.

and by shipping times i meant some phones could have left the manufacturing at different times and perhaps got flashes different ly, ot could have altered the way they were labeled.

Just downloaded the Xtremelabs Speedtest APP to check my down/up speeds and i'm disappointed. I ran the test 4 times and got between 650-880 Kbit/s upload and 150-210 Kbit/s download. That's nowhwere near Rev A.

I'm going to BB tomorrow and have them check their stock for any with the "with Google" branding to see what the deal is.

Hello Everyone,

I just got mine from Kty Telesales today

I reads "with GOOGLE"

CDMA-EvDo rev.A

Seems really fast with no delay at all watching videos.

Love this thing so far!

Sending my BB Tour back tomorrow.

Gonna take awhile to get all these screens organized. Does a lot of things in a small package.
