Isn't this supposed to NOT be possible?

I was on my Vibrant looking for highlights for a soccer game on youtube. When I clicked on a user's channel, the actual youtube flash player loaded. Not the phone's youtube player, but the actual in-page youtube player. That IS flash, right? My phone is still on 2.1, how can this be possible?

This is the channel:
YouTube - Freddyazulful's Channel

I haven't been able to recreate it with any other channels, but I can do it with this one every time.

The HTML5 youtube player looks different and you have to opt-in to the beta to use it, so that can't be it.

EDIT: Nevermind, it does look the same as the flash player, but I'm not opted in to the beta.

I've heard that some videos on youtube have html5 versions. Maybe that's what is playing?

EDIT: Had this page open earlier and didn't refresh before posting. Sorry for the reply you've already gotten. :)

Our phones are preloaded with flash lite 9.1.

Even if you have HTML5 enabled in the options for youtube, it'll still look like the original flash player, but in the bottom right of the player near your resolution selection it will say html5 webm, example: http://i47.tinypic.com/1q51si.jpg

I am not on Firefox 4 beta at the moment, but I have tried it and it does work.

I get the videos to load in HQ.... when the video starts in LQ you hit the menu key and select "more" then at the bottom you will see watch video in HQ. I do have to say even with 3g its very slow loading in HQ.

The phone comes with Flash Lite. Your able to play youtube videos inside the browser, although with some degradation to performance.

It's HTML5. There were changes done to the "mobile" version of online Youtube. They mentioned this about better iPhone support, so it can't be Flash Lite.
