Help Issue connecting to computer

Hey guys,
So I am having issues connecting both my Nexus 4 and 9 to my laptop. The device will connect to my laptop, but there will be no folder that pops up to allow me to add files to the device from my laptop. I tried disconnecting the device and reconnecting. I have Media Device MTP selected in my USB computer connection. I have also tried switching over to the Camera (PTP) but it still does not work. I am not sure what is going on.. Can anyone help? Thank you

Have you just tried browsing "computer" and seeing if the device is listed there? Mine never just pops up either. I always have to go to start>computer>device

Yeah, it doesn't show up in the devices or c drive. It shows that the device is connected because it allows me to "safely eject" the device. However, it does not have a specic folder for the device.. If that makes sense

Ok, so I figured it out! Apparently my MTP usb drive was not up to date and needed to be manually updated.

If anyone is having this issue, use this webpage for step-by-step instructions on fixing the problem.
