Help Issue: Dismount/disappearing defect in the Included 8GB MicroSD?

Interesting - thank you for sharing.

Though this begs the question - why haven't Incredibles been having similar issues with their SD Cards, if they're "too fast?" There may be some fundamental differences in the hardware of course, but it does raise some interesting "comparative" questions.

He also told me that all the phones which were pre-ordered are from the same production. If you have a problem with the phone as described in this thread, he claims that new replacement phones will be offered beginning 18 days after tomorrow's release.

Now that would be unfortunate. If true I don't know if I want to go though hassle of setting up phone only to do it again in 3 weeks and risk losing data not backed up during that period. So it's either cancel pre-order and wit 3 weeks or get it tomorrow and not port over my current phone costing me an extra $100.

I don't even have evo yet or know if it's an issue and I am already pissed at HTC and sprint.

I guess I'll call RS and or sprint and see what they say about the alleged defect.

Please do. I would like to know what they have to say. Thanks.

This at least matches what the Sprint Tech Rep told me the other day (detailed elsewhere in this thread).

For what it's worth, I'm about 12 hours in with my 16 gig replacement SD card, and it is working flawlessly. Every time I open my phone, I make sure to hop over to Astro and the Gallery, to browse files on the SD Card, just to try and invoke another failure. Things have been stable thus far.

That's good. Keep us updated. Thanks. :)

No worries, things are getting a bit cluttered, with similar threads being merged.

Well, my 16 gig card finally showed up today. A Transcend class 6 if you're curious.

Amazon.com: Transcend 16 GB microSDHC Class 6 Flash Memory Card TS16GUSDHC6E: Electronics

Did a full format on the puppy and moved about 3 gigs worth of MP3s and photos over. Hammered the SD Card by playing MP3s in the background while surfing photos and running the SD Speed Test, and everything seems stable so far!

Keep those fingers crossed!

I wish I would have seen this card before I bought my 16sd 2. I gues I can always resell for a little loss and by this one. I am going to follow Bek for a few days to make sure this is the fix before I drop more money on sd cards.

And hey, for all we know, this could be an isolated issue with a bad batch of SD cards, and you could wind up with a good SD card. Time will tell. I'll keep updating regarding my Evo's stability though.

Please do. I would like to know what they have to say. Thanks.

I called Sprint customer service and she had not heard of any issues. But she was not tech support. Then she tried to sell me a data card at the end of the call. So I would not consider that call reliable.

Then I called RS store. I explained issue and he had not heard of any data storage issues. He attended training but earlier in week, not yesterday.

So I would take both of those calls with a very small grain of salt

But if the earlier post is true that replacement phones, if needed, would be available in a few weeks that would imply HTC found theroot cause and fixed it. Even though another post a few days ago said sprint knew of problem but not cause.

At this point I decided I can't wait a few weeks so I am getting phone tomorrow. As long as I can make a 911 call if I get mugged and end up on the street bleeding, then that is good enough. Worst case I just won't be able to save the pic I snapped of the perp.

I saw the same issue once with the original 8 GB card, but at I/O I switched in the 16 GB card we got with the droid. I saw an error again right away, but after un-seating re-seating the 16 GB card once I have not seen an error since (almost 2 weeks).

I am still going to get mine tomorrow, as well. I'll deal with it if something happens. Isn't it sad that we still buy things with known problems? The rich get richer, I guess.

Should I wait to put my screen protector on, or should I wait to hear about a replacement phone. i don't want to put my screen protector on and then have to rip it off 3 weeks later when I get a new phone?

you should wait to put your screen protector on until you sell your phone. the phone has gorilla glass so you cant scratch it, all you are going to do is make the screen cloudier when the protector gets old.

This is an interesting comment on the article.

Wonder if this issue was almost purposeful.
- Get the EVO out to devs with issue in there
- Expect them to be able to root and exploit the EVO
- Use that knowledge to create OTA update for "bug" that also closes up rooting access.
Hopefully the EVO devs will just be able to make an update for rooted phones that will fix the SD Card issue.
One has to wonder.

Ummm....off topic, but I don't believe the EVO has gorilla glass.
Source?

Interesting. I've been offline for the last few hours.

I see this went up as well:

Storage Bug Hits HTC Evo 4G Phone Just Before Launch | Gadget Lab | Wired.com

The author of the article actually contacted me privately, earlier today, and asked me to contact her. So we chatted for a few minutes where I basically reiterated everything I've already discussed extensively here.

Can someone please post a link at the beginning of the thread or here to let me know what the solution is? I really don't feel like wading through the 250 posts on here.

Thanks
