Help Issue Syncing Calendars

I have just been given a Samsung galaxy Tab 2 7.0, and am having problems in many areas. In particular, I am trying to sync a google calendar with the tablet planner. I try to add a new google account, but it continuously says that the user name and password do not agree. Initially, I updated my password on my PC, but this was not picked up by the tablet. Then I changed it on the tablet - a much more fiddly operation - but it still said they did not agree. I find the user guide very unhelpful. Maybe I need to re-set up some connection between thetablet and the PC. I have used bluetooth and the dropbox, but have not re-initialised them before trying this operation.
