Root issue with clockworkmod recovery

any time i try to reboot into recovery or backup my current rom it reboots and brings up the exclamation mark inside of the triangle with the android next to it, and the following appears:

--Install from package...
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...

E:failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted.

instead of taking me to clockworkmod's recovery menu, it takes me to the "android system recovery" menu where i have to reboot the phone.

i'm on a samsung fascinate rooted with super one click root. it's on the stock rom running 2.2.1 kernel version 2.6.32.9
i just installed rom manager and downloaded clockworkmod recovery from within the app. it takes me to the default android recovery regardless of whether i choose "reboot to recovery" with rom manager, or hold down volume and power.

hope someone has a solution for me, i'm ready to put some roms on this thing! :D

The exact same thing happens to me! I try using rom manager to reboot into recovery and it says the same message. I tried using odin to install CW and when I held down the power and volume buttons it seems like it booted into CW but the screen is black but the soft keys still light up. I pressed the power button and my phone started back up.

If anyone can solve this problem it would be a great help!

finally got it to work!!!

i used this (How to Root Your Fascinate and Install Froyo) method, which installs a leaked froyo rom, BUT installs the latest version of clockworkmod recovery to your phone.
apparently the problem is that the fascinate won't install clockworkmod correctly from within the rom manager app. this method also has you using Oden, but it has VERY detailed instructions on how to use it correctly. in your case i think the problem is that you're holding down volume up AND down keys, which takes to the android recovery screen. when using Oden, you want to remove the battery from your phone, and while holding down ONLY the DOWN volume button, plug it in. this will take you to a "downloading" screen. then you can install the .tar file.
i literally JUST got done doing this, and everything seems to be running smoothly. now im going to try out a different rom and see how it goes

try that link i posted, to the "T" and it should work.

on a side note: just noticed that this method also roots the phone. mine was already rooted, so i'm not sure how it worked? oh well haha i guess it works either way, already rooted or not rooted. hope this helps!

No I was successful in installing CWM with oden but when I tried to run it my phone would stay black and the soft keys would light up, with no samsung logo at all

are you going through Rom Manager? if so, try pulling the battery out, then putting it back in, but don't press the power button. Hold down the volume up AND down keys this time and hit the power button at the same time. When the samsung logo comes up, let go of the power button but keep holding volume up/down. it should take you to a recovery screen. if the writing is blue, you're in android recovery. if it's orange or red, youre in clockworkmod recovery. if it's in blue, hit "update from zip." and it should run through some info and then take you to the clockworkmod screen.

Idk what happened but it started working somehow. I've done this all before plenty of times but for some reason when I help down both volume keys and the power button the samsung logo would not pop up but the softkeys would. I even waited a good 5 minutes but still nothing.

Nevermind. The rom wouldn't flash correctly and now its doing the same thing...(going to a black screen with the softkeys lit up)

damn i don't know much beyond what i've said so far. hopefully someone will chime in with a solution for ya.
