Help Issue with SD Card

Hey Androidforums,

I have a problem with my SD card. I have a Kyocera Hydro (stock Android 4.0.4). It's not much, but I like it. This past Christmas, I decided to get a bigger SD card to accommodate more music and games and whatnot so I went to radioshack and got a 32GB SanDisk micro SD card (unsure what class). It's worked very well until a couple of days ago. For some reason, my phone/card has started acting strangely. It does one of two things: 1.) It mounts/scans the card, works for a few minutes, then a bunch of apps that aren't even running crash (messages include unfortunately "Email" had stopped working and com.blahblahblah.gapps had stopped), then the card unmounts or 2.) The card doesn't even mount at all. I've tried my old 8 GB card and it works, but there's nothing on it, so I know the reader itself is fine. This is becoming a nightmare. All my media and most of my apps are on the card and I don't know what to do.


Any help would be well appreciated,

Just for good measure, I would back up all of your files on your PC until you get this matter resolved. Once all of the files are safely backed up.. it would be a great time to have the phone format the card. I think I would dot all I's and cross all T's. I would have the phone dismount the card. I would then physically remove the card. I would reinsert the card after an inspection for a problem and have the phone remount it. I would then let the phone format the card. I would then copy my files back to the card from the PC. I say copy because I'd leave my backup on the PC. You might need another card and besides... a backup is big medicine. Welcome to AF! Sorry to hear about your issue...

A little background here:

I'll take a look more deeply into this answer later...but if I'm not mistaken, it is my understanding that in Android 4.x and higher, it is recommended to not move apps to the SD card and that development to make it work seamlessly has been abandoned.

I remember running Android 2.1 back in the day before Froyo (2.2) came out. Froyo introduced apps2sd functionality and it carried into Gingerbread (2.3). The reason I mention this is because apps2sd never really panned out. Cache and saved data for an app installed to an SD card often saved on the device's storage, making the experience eventually too buggy for Google to continue to work on apps2sd.

One of the primary reasons apps2sd came to fruition was lack of internal storage. The SD card made the Android platform flexible but apps saved to it caused users headaches, including yours truly. Once Google and OEMs caught onto this, devices started to ship with 2, 4, 8, 16, 32 and in some cases 64GB of internal storage.

I don't know if this has been helpful, but if my memory is not failing me, you may need to find a solution to running apps on your internal memory. Your music will be fine on the SD card. Olbriar's suggestion to move your files off the card and format it is a great start to solving this. Also, when you move your files back to the card, I would move just media. Then I would factory reset, start from scratch, and install my apps to the internal memory.

Clean the gold strips off given this is where stored data is read from anything hendering and problems will ensue which is already apparent.Forementioned is equivalent to the touch sensors as any fingerprints,dirt,and or etc will cause your phone to precieve wrong inputs
