Help Issue With Text Messaging

-Galaxy S4 (of course, lol..)
-SCH-R970X
-Android 4.3
-Default, built-in "Messaging" app

• receive new text
• unlock phone
• pull down the notification bar
• see new message preview
• tap the message
• app pulls up the text window of the last person I was texting, NOT the text I just received

You can understand that, in a hurry, this poses problems, lol. How can I fix this to where when I tap the message I just received the app goes to that message and NOT to the text window of the last person I was texting (ASIDE from "use another text app")?

You may not be looking for an answer like this, but here goes anyway...

Have you ever tried a 3rd party app like Handcent or Go SMS?

I use Go SMS and absolutely love it! So much customization and it works perfectly. I have always had issues with the stock apps and their lack of performance.
