Help Issues/comments after installing ICS? Discuss/post here

this has been said dozens of times in the thread alone...you CANNOT take the OTA update if you are rooted...go to the rooted forum for ways to update to newer software
please talk a little nicer- I have already been to that thread and I still have no clue how to update my software, because I dont understand the instructions...

Hey guys,

New to the forum. I'm having issues with my phone, more specifically the messages tab. Today I upgraded to Ice Cream Sandwich. Everything seemed to be working just fine until I tried to open up my messages. It fails to open and instead just idle's on the "loading" screen.

Any thoughts?

Welcome av! :)

You probably had an abundance of messages in the old application?
Adar and Xanok have found that if you let the Messages Application sit on this loading screen for an extended period of time eventually all your messages will reload to the new system. You will have to have some time available to wait and be patient.

Note: It may help to set your phone display to not sleep to provide enough time for the foreground action to take place.

Please let us know if this method works for you. And feel free to ask any other questions you may have.

you are already rooted, but you don't understand the instructions to install a new rom:confused:...ok...

There is plenty of good ICS roms out there already (for awhile now) for the EVO3D

I thought that may be the problem/solution but I got too impatient to wait and decided to post here on the forums. I followed your instructions and they all loaded up. I deleted a lot of the new message and it is still running a little slow which makes me think it would be best if I just deleted all the old messages and started anew.

I appreciate the help. I'll let you know if anything else changes.

Hey everyone,

I recently did the update, and I'm having an issue with the stock camera. It worked fine for a while, but now it won't. When I try to open it, the screen goes black, the white camera icon pops up for a seconds, then it goes back to black for 15 seconds before closing. I've already restarted, removed the battery and restart, and I tried installing FX camera, which opened (and stayed open), but there was no picture- it was a black screen underneath the FX camera interface.

Sounds like a software issue with the camera...make sure you have all your important stuff (thats not on your sd card, and contacts backed up) and do a factory reset, so that all the in phone programs get a fresh install. When you do the reset tho, DO NOT reformat or erase your SD card...

I am having the worst phone day ever. First, I dropped my phone so now my capacitive buttons don't work. I then install ICS and nothing works. I swear my phone has rebooted 15 times already within the past hour.

I try to load text messages - reboots
I try to update apps - reboots
I try to change settings - reboots

I need to go home and back up my stuff and just do a factory reset. This is so ridiculous.

correct. everytime i try flashing a new rom, it gives me an error. you're supposed to flash a new rom in recovery mode from the bootloader area, right?

I don't know what button or combination of buttons I accidentally pushed, but I got this screen on my 3VO today. Has anybody seen this screen?

EDIT.
Never mind. It is a new task manager. You press and hold Home button.

Well it has been over 2 hours and my text message screen still says "Please Wait". I know I have a lot of text messages, but wow this is a really long time. How long did this take for you guys, or anyone else that had this problem? Also, is this just a one time thing or should I delete a ton of my messages once my messages finally load? Thanks.

Couple of questions:

1) How do you adjust font size

2) Is there a way to adjust for when the screen dims before auto turning off? I'm not talking about the timer for when the phone goes to sleep, but like a few seconds before it goes to sleep, it dims...is there a way to turn that off? I still want my phone to sleep, just don't want it to dim before sleeping.

Yeah, its an outrageous one time thing.
It took TheFrigz 3 hours!

Hmm, alright, I've been giving that a go for a while now. It's on the charger, screen awake, sitting on the Please Wait message for well over an hour now..I'll keep it on and see if it changes.

I can't delete a thread either because the Please Wait message appears as soon as I load the app.

EDIT- 3 hours later, it's finally done. Seems to be working now. Thanks :)

I asked this before in post #85 but no response since then that I've seen.
Can anyone that took the update check the Messages application for me? In Sense 4 under the menu in the messages application there is a new feature to backup and restore messages. Did they add this to 3.6 as well?

Well after 4 hours, my text messages finally loaded!!! I would say I have about 25k+ messages. I haven't deleted any texts since about a year ago. At the moment I am deleting large threads. It is taking anywhere from 5-20 minutes to delete each one!! This is madness I tell ya.

lol.. yea.. it sux..

you can setup in messaging app, that it only keep 200 text.. or something like that.. it auto deletes anything older than 200.. i believe

you can also swipe left to right, to kill the app.. close it down..

how can I change the stupid lock screen shortcuts? They switched the camera and messaging one and now I keep launching the camera while trying to check texts. It's driving me absolutely insane and I can't figure out how to change them.
