Help Issues downloading MMS texts?

Recently, when I get a group text (20 people), I get the initial notification. I goto stock messaging app, and it shows a message. I click on it and it just shows "downloading". For a long time...hours sometimes. It's not even a pic, size says 30kb.

Sometimes it will come thru or people will reply. When they reply, I get the same "downloading". Sometimes it's fast, but lately all very slow. Then message comes through and just says "no" or something very small.

Anyway to fix this?

Verizon. I've tried with wifi on and off.

It maybe time to get into a corporate store . to hear the message about CDMA and gsm .

I've had this happen, using stock messenger/Verizon messenger and Hangouts. It seems to happen when I get a SMS/MMS while I'm on a call and connected to WiFi. It's seriously annoying. If I shut the radios off (airplane mode) then turn them back on it kicks the download back into action.

You may also want to try clearing cache/data, that may or may not help.

in the messaging app is there a message settings where you can go to uncheck or check a box with "auto-retrieve messages" ??

Yes, auto retrieve is checked for MMS. Roaming auto-retrieve is unchecked

Strange I think your MMS has been turned off you may want to call . this is normal with Verizon and if you search through the forums you would see that happen to many other people I have helped. Either a computer glitch or just human error but they change your account without telling you .

Verizon had no idea. They had me run in safe mode and I got pic text right away. Says it must be a 3rd party app. Perform backup and wipe phone and then install apps one by one. I don't really want to do that.

Went back into regular mode and just haven't opened facebook app. So far so good...what a resource hog. Deleted some unused apps too. Enabled some stupid verizon apps that I had disabled in case it messed up texting somehow.

Watch out for the Verizon apps . since they are your carrier

Well they aren't the problem. Just had where I couldn't send texts again.

It was only the Verizon navigator, tunes, vvm, and appstore.

I'm at a loss. It's definitely apps cause works fine in safe mode.

Yesterday, I turned off wifi since I was out all weekend and didn't have problems. When I noticed it Friday, it was working fine, I pulled into grocery store, then it stopped sending texts and receiving. I noticed it just switched to wifi from grocery store. Wondering if it's an issue with wifi switching? Though no issues when in safe mode, so must be an app

I think the app play memories . it needs WiFi to show your locations and photos . let me know cause I need to find out about some others . I didn't know you had another launcher . how does this problem act with the other launcher.

Ok, I've removed it and am now using the standard launcher. Nova is much smoother, but may/may not cause issues. I'll try it out tonight.

I feel like I had the "downloading" mms issue a year ago. Which was before Nova and PlayMemories, but it has been much worse lately. So I'll try it for sure

There may be a setting to limit MMS to wifi when connected so not to use the carriers bandwidth. If this is the case then the servers/routers you are connecting too may be blocking the port required for email/mms. Probability in safe mode these enhanced features, or even an app that is applying them, is not being activated.
