Help Issues with Android 1 Updating

BossSnake

Lurker
After the new 2.2.1 update launched, I have been wanted to get back to stock firmware. However, ClockworkMod has been all but cooperative, so I resorted to reverting back to 2.1 through RSDLite. Now, I cannot update to 2.2 to save my life. Everywhere I have looked as declared that updating requires rooting, but I want the final result to be 2.2.1 stock.

Would I be required to reroot my phone to apply the 2.2 update, then cancel it off with 2.2.1, or is there a better way to do so?

VZW, as I have searched on Google, has taken down its 2.2 update from OTA for Droid 1, and I doubt they have created a file that would take a 2.1 Droid to 2.2.1. Where can I go from here?

Also, to add, when I have downloaded the update file for 2.2 part 1, and tried to load it through recovery, it tells me:

E:Can't open /cache/recovery/command

--Install from sdcard...
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
E:failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted.

What could be reason why the update doesn't apply? I have tried renaming the file as "update" and "update.zip" to ensure that Vista wasn't messing with my settings for .zip files.
