Help issues with droid and messaging app

I uses ChompSMS, and I haven't had a problem with text messaging crashing since the December OTA update. Be interesting to see what happens if/when they drop 2.1 for it. But maybe the text messaging app's stability shouldn't be interesting...

How do I get rid of the default messaging program so that each time I get a text through handcent I don't get both?

I also had the better keyboard and would have that same problem where the text wouldnt show up in the box and I'd have to restart my phone. I went back to the default one and it works better.

You don't get *rid* of it but you can kill auto retrieval and notification if you actually launch the Messaging app then press the menu key to get to the options page for the messaging app.

I have handcent sms and purchased my droid just last month yet I still have problems with my text. For some reason I can't receive text messages but I can receive picture text messages. I can send text messages fine but can't send picture text messages. Also the times on the received text messages I do receive are inaccurate usually like 9 hours prior to when they actually sent it. Does anyone else have these kinds of problems and do you have any solutions or suggestions? Thanks.

Some of these replies sound similar to issues I have had both with my Droid and my previous phone. They relate to the carrier, ie Verizon and not the phone it's self.
I get sms or mms messages that i dont' actually get. So the inbox will say 1 new, but I have opened all the ones I can see. Verizon had to make some changes on their end to fix this. I'm on the edge of Verizon and extended coverage so I'm told that makes a difference too.
I also have a issue getting pics as videos. Does anyone know if there is a fix for this.
I have a Motorola Droid running 2.1 Android.
