Help Issues with Virgin Mobile HTC Evo 4G SD Card

mMcDaniel

Lurker
My phone's MicroSD card has suddenly stopped working. I can't access the apps or, most importantly, my photos and videos that were stored on it, which has really frustrated me because I didn't back them up in time. The card was working fine a few days ago, but now the phone isn't recognizing it and because of that, my computer isn't recognizing my phone (the USB option "Disk Drive" has disappeared). I haven't dropped my phone or anything recently--it stays in my room most of the time, so I can't imagine how the SD card might have gotten damaged. Is it shot? Am I going to be able to recover my photos somehow?

Welcome mMcDaniel!!

Sorry to hear about your sd card issue but do you have a card reader that you can use to put the card directly into the computer? If then you can see the card, then we have to deal with the device:)
Have you tried a battery pull or a simple reboot?

And also, I see you are on the Virgin Mobile network.
Are you sure you have the Evo 4G and not the Evo V 4G?

Yes, I have tried the battery pull and reboot multiple times, and I've tried using my card reader on two different computers. Neither have worked, so it must be the card. I just don't see how it could have gone out so fast, as I've only had this phone for a few months.

It's the Evo V 4G...I use the terms interchangeably. :o

I know...stranger things have happened my friend:)

I also moved your thread here to your device forum.

These are 2 different devices...similar, but different so I moved it:)

You can try to format it and then see if it works again.

Have you ever unplugged your phone from the PC while in disk mode without first going to charge only mode? Stuff like that can corrupt the card sometimes, so even if that's not what happened, you'll know not to do that in the future.

I've experienced things like that before on my OG EVO (EVO 4G) where the card isn't accessible, but I've never lost the data. Taking the card out and putting it back in usually solves that for me. I'm sorry to hear it didn't help your situation.

There are PC tools that might enable you to recover your data, 2 that I've personally used are Flash Memory Toolkit and PhotoRescue Advanced, they're not free so it really depends on what your data is worth to you.
