It Just Keeps Getting Worse...

According to an article on Android Authority, Samsung Galaxy Note 7 replacements keep catching fire. Samsung needs to have another recall of ALL Note 7 phones, original and replacement devices. In order to encourage the return of Note 7 phones, Samsung should announce that it will no longer provide software updates or warranty support for the Note 7.

I'm just glad that I got the 7 Edge at the time and the Edge ROCKS!
 
I predict they'll go with Samsung Galaxy Note 8 and blow people's socks off next spring, 2017.

The drawback of a Spring release is that it puts them on the same schedule as the standard Galaxy S. I don't know how big a problem that is, because I don't know to what extent the staggering of the S and Note releases is technical (to allow part of the team to work sequentially on the 2 flagships) and to what extent it's a matter of marketing (to give them two flagship releases per year, each slightly leapfrogging the other, so there was always something "latest and greatest"), but I'm sure that between those two it is seen as an advantage. And if they bring the Note (or whatever they call it) release to the Spring they lose that.

If I were them my top product development priority now would be to ensure that the S8 does not have even the slightest risk of a battery problem. Samsung have deep pockets and can do a lot of cross-subsidising, so even the worst case of scrapping the Note 7 completely is survivable. But if S8s start burning as well they may as well withdraw from smartphones altogether, and since their testing didn't pick this up for the Note 7 (and it is hard to pick up rare faults) I'd be prioritising that over getting another Note to market fast.
Great point! Focusing on a really solid S8 is probably the best idea and sticking to normal release periods, even though some may go to other phones. That's just to be considered the fallout from all of this.

If Samsung decides to stick with the NOTE moniker, then releasing it next Fall wouldn't be a bad idea to let the dust(ashes) settle. The passing of time would help to bury this failure, thereby, starting fresh to restore the trust of past loyal users.
 
Agreed. Go with the best S8 you can possibly put out there for the 1st step of redemption in the spring. Take your time and figure out the N7 issues and correct them in full before the N8 release next fall.
 
The could just cease the "Note" product line completely, and next year's S8 includes an S-Pen.

Basically Samsung only does one flagship device, released once a year. And maybe a plus version as well, for those who require a larger screen.
I think you're right, Mike. Samsung should forget the Note line and provide an S8 model with an S-Pen. The product line could include a standard size S8, a larger S8 Plus, and an S8 Plus with an S-Pen.
 
Tell me does this include the Samsung S7 mobile phone as I'm thinking of going for that one as my contract is ended?

If they added the s-pen t0 the S8 next year then it would no longer be an S8. It would be a Note8. Hence he big difference between the S series and the Note series.
 
You know... I almost held off last March from getting my current S7 Edge to wait for the Note 7 as I really liked my Note 5, 4 & 3 I had before. But that S7 Edge looked so good, I bit the bullet and got it with the VR, memory card & power supply.
I'm sure glad now that I got the S7 Edge instead!!! :p
 

I'm not outraged, and actually find the whole fiasco amusing to say the least. :)

Don't know how things normally work for this in China, it was Samsung where I handed my Note7 in, but it was the retailer Gome (国美) who credited my bank account with the full-refund, with which I bought the Oppo R9 Plus, and I still have half left over. And presumably they've now got to claw that money back off of Samsung.
 
... And now Samsung is recalling all their washing machines.

Meanwhile, my Samsung refrigerator is waiting for parts... Again!
 
Fortunately, our Samsung washer is front load so we're okay... for the moment...

I will NEVER buy another Samsung fridge. It's beautiful and works great... except for the ice maker. It doesn't make ice worth a crap, and it drips water into the drip tray under the dispenser. The drip tray doesn't drain anywhere, so it fills up with water and we have to sponge it out every 3 or 4 days. What a PAIN!

The cause of the dripping water can't be corrected?
 
It wasn't designed to drain anywhere, and we have had service technicians out 4 times in 9 months to try to correct this. Still dripping and leaking.
