It's already a problem when...

The brand spanking new, just released Google flagship phone freezes. I went to the best buy store to check the phone out and buy it if I liked it. Well when arrived there the demo unit was already frozen.

That is just pathetic IMO, there are other POS demo phones working just fine, and the Nexus S freezes on it's first day. Sigh, I guess I'm not purchasing this after this kind of first impression.

Demos always lag and freeze. that is because kids and idiots leave 900293847474 programs running, fill the cash and just plain old F'em up. LOL

I went to my local best buy and they had the demo unit locked up! they had to get a manager so i could play with it. Very responsive and i walked out with one.

I understand that, but when they touted that it has the fastest processor and that this phone is blazingly fast and what not, you would expect it to handle these kinds of things.

When I tried to play with the demo NS and it didn't work, I walked over to a demo Dell Streak. It was operable, and very smooth with some laggy-ness to it. So I checked what apps were running and found ~100 different processes running. And this is a Dell Streak we are talking about, shouldn't the new NS be a tad bit better?

Anyways, not trying to "rock the boat" or anything, just wanted to share my "first impression" with you guys, that's all. I had kind of high hopes for this phone, but just got angry when even the demo wouldn't work. :(

Interesting ..... Mine is blazing fast and I have not had a single hiccup all day and trust me, I have been pushing this bad boy.......

they had 2 at the local bby and they both were frozen. given it's nothing more than a galaxy s not sure what the issues are... 2.3 FAIL

WOW! Fail? I love mine! Granted it is a member of the Galaxy S family so to speak the build quality and so much more has improved. Better reception nicer fit and finish feels a bit heavier in the hand to name a few.

But to each their own, DID I MENTION I LOVE MINE? :)

I have AT&T and honestly I had EVERY intention of buying an unlocked on today and making the switch to Simple Mobile, but when I got the device in my hand I just couldn't do it. It felt like cheap plastic, and looked just like the Galaxy S (the Asian model, not sure who in the US has that version)... I just couldn't do it. The resolution wasn't as baked as the iPhone, the build quality still felt cheap compared to iPhone, tho it is improved over Galaxy S... there's just too much missing for a 6-month bump to Galaxy S that I couldn't take the leap knowing that CES is coming and there will undoubtedly be dual core, HSPA+ devices with better build quality, SD card slots, better resolution, and 3G that's really universal (aka a phone being sold as unlocked in the US should work on both of the only 2 GSM carriers in this country lol)...

Hate to say it, but it let me down.... and clearly the response isn't great like Google was hoping. There was no hype... hell, when the Storm Blackberry came out at verizon the local store had 150 people in line, for a BLACKBERRY... we won't even talk about iPhone, lol

Why do people who don't even have the phone post negative remarks??? Why post in a forum for a device you dont even own??? Oh, I forgot, they played with a demo for 5 minutes.....

This forum is not for owners. If that were the case, nobody should be here who's considering the phone. For christ's sake. Just because someone disagrees with you and doesn't think the phone is the greatest thing in the world (evident by the lack of lines or sales at bby today) doesn't mean they can't post opinions on here about their experience with the device, even if it's a demo. Oh I guess since you've had the device 6 hours you're the expert then.

My take is the complainers either:

A. Can't afford it
B. Are drinking the Jobs kool aid
C. Are fan people of whatever device they are carrying and want to put every new device down that comes out
D. Spent a few minutes of quality time with a demo

Anyone and I mean anyone who takes away from a demo what the device really is, is well.... Lost IMHO....

You are not here considering the phone, you tried the demo, you slammed the phone as junk, so move along and let us owners get down to discussing our new toy....

You obviously can have nothing more to add from your few minutes of use with the demo.... So I say thanks for the awesome contribution and have a nice weekend... :)

You're clueless.

If you read, I would LOVE to be able to dump my iPhone for something better. I bought and returned the Android Galaxy S after owning it for 3 weeks, just wasn't good enough. Was literally going into the store today to buy the Nexus S, but played with it for a half an hour and the experience was ALMOST identical to the Galaxy S, as many others have pointed out in reviews.

A. Can't afford it

- Considering I was in the store to buy it as a SECOND device to use alongside my $975 UK Factory Unlocked iPhone 4 that I FLEW TO THE UK JUST TO BUY, that's a pretty stupid comment. In all aspects the iPhone is a more expensive device to buy and subscribe to, so not sure your observation makes any sense. Selling an iPhone 4 would net enough to buy almost 2 brand new unlocked Nexus S, lol

B. Are drinking the Jobs kool aid

- There's a reason people like kool-aid and Shasta is kinda the gross alternative people who only have a quarter can buy in the machine in front of walmart. ;-)

C. Are fan people of whatever device they are carrying and want to put every new device down that comes out

Yeah, I currently carry iPhone, but like I said, I WENT TO BBY to BUY THE NEW DEVICE and changed my mind after playing with it... it's not like I wouldn't drop my iPhone if something better was available. One could say the same about you, clearly u have preference to Android devices, but they're not as mainstream as iPhone TODAY.

D. Spent a few minutes of quality time with a demo

Yeah, doesn't take an all-nighter to realize the Nexus S is a bad fu@k... lol.

Bottom line, cut the crap... you can't argue that it's a top notch device when every store in the area has them in stock on launch day and nobody's lined up to buy them, and the flagship store in SF hadn't sold one by NOON on launch day. I agree Android is a good OS and is going to gain popularity, but it's NOT going to be through a device on T-Mobile, and it's NOT going to be because of the Nexus S.

Hahahaha....

Like I said, have a nice weekend...

Thank you for all the awesome insight and hands on knowledge you have shared with us....

And now back to our regularly scheduled program...

Can people who actually HAVE the device and have spent more that 45 seconds with it post their thoughts please???

LOLOLOL

In other words, people only post things that make him feel better about his purchase. Generally I only need reassurance about a purchase if I'm questioning my decision to have purchased something.

You said have a nice weekend, so go have your weekend.

Yikes, feeling some insecurities from your purchase raqball? And plus, we were giving our OPINIONS of our experience with the phone, whether it be for 5 minutes or 5 days, etc. And for the most part, first impressions matter a lot, especially when my first impression was staring at a frozen screen. I don't care if the phone is great or awesome, I just want the damn thing to work, and if my first impression was with a nonfunctioning phone, I am most likely not gonna buy it.

So question, to any of you. If you were looking to buy a phone, and the demo phone at the store was frozen, or non functioning (especially on launch day), would you buy it regardless, and based solely off of "fanboism?"

Even though I've said my piece, no, I wouldn't. You'll NEVER find a iPhone that locks up in the store, even with 200 apps running. With that said, I've never seen a Galaxy S locked up in the store, so I'm guessing it's an issue with the Nexus S... hopefully it gets resolved before the next model :-)

Ha! Knowing Samsung, they probably won't fix it. They would just scrap it and go another route to suck more money from us poor consumers.

That's my peeve with all the android phones out... they're all half-baked, and as soon as one comes out another comes out with one little feature added so as soon as you get one it's out of date. And the resale value is not good, so ya end up spending $500 every 3 months, lol, and my iPhone 4 and Galaxy 6 which are both 7 months old still run circles around the current Nexus S

To answer the question.. it would make me think twice about getting it.. Now in fairness, I have been to an Apple store that had iPhone demos that were not running. The difference being that there were 5 other demos that "were" running that I could look at. I'm sure it's also a priority of the Apple sales staff to make sure that demos are not borked up. I just happened upon it before they found it.. It should have also been a priority at Best Buy for their sales staff to watch for that. That's just basic retail sales. The reason is obvious, not to hide flaws, but not to lose sales because their demo "appears" to have problems that can easily be caused by any teenager who has spent some time digging deeper into the the phone settings, or trying to install something while the Sales staff is busy writing up a sales contract for another customer.

I've noticed that it's pretty much only two people being ridiculous, trolling or whatever it is their doing. Both appear to be ignorant Apple fanboys who refuse to even take legitimate news articles as acceptable sources if it shows Android to beat their precious iPhone in any way. Everyone else has posted legitimate comments, be them positive or negative, that they want to discuss a bit.

Just an observation. It's really up to the mods to take any action.

More on topic, I've noticed that many Android demo phones run lame demo apps developed by the store. AT&T has them, T-Mobile has them, and apparently Best Buy has them. You can't really blame the hardware when the damn store loads up some half-baked application that crashes.

Sure, call me a troll, that's your observation and I'm not here to persuade your observation.

My point of the original post was to discuss my first impression (and perhaps to warn others), which was an albeit bad first impression (in which I have now stated twice).

I could care less about tech reviews and others opinions about products. It's MY impression and how I like/dislike a product. And I'll take ANY phone that beats the iPhone any day, I love electronics, I'm not going to limit myself just because it is of a certain brand.

And me being an Apple fanboy? Sure, call me that as well. But I'm also a Microsoft fanboy as I have 3 computers that run on that and use ALL the time. I'm also a Sony fanboy as well, as I have numerous Sony products. I can go on and on. Everyone is a fanboy, that's why people use their products. Hell, you're probably an Android fanboy. Am I wrong? since you are being protective against my original statement I made in the first post.

I will admit that the post was overly negative, but I was ANGRY that I could not test out the phone that I have been watching for quite some time now, and it left a sour taste in my mouth. I apologize if it came out offensive.

Oh, and I hate it when someone talks "trash" about an Android phone, and people automatically call "APPLE FANBOY!" There are such things as bad products. The same also goes for people going to apple forums and stating faults about the phone and get called "ANDROID FANBOY!" I dunno, just a pet peeve of mine.

This thread is getting a little out of hand.

Having never played with the Nexus S yet I can't give my opinion on it.

But I can say as a former Best Buy Mobile employee that Best Buy loads the phone up with their demo video feed. Even when you hit the home button and start using other applications that demo video is cycling in the background eating up processing power and memory.

When I worked in mobile I made it a point to delete the stupid Best Buy demo videos and software and it made a HUGE difference in the performance of the phones.

I owned the origninal Sprint HTC Hero. When the phone released our demo made the phone feel completely horrible but after removing the BBY crap the performance drastically increased and I bought a unit the same day!

I don't know how you can get a good feel of the phone from Bestbuy. The phones are lock down with the two strips of band around it that make touching and navigating on the screen an unpleasant experience.I personally like it when the sale rep can hand you the device and you get the over all feel of the phone.
