A about an hour later. My battery died. While changing it for my spare. I thought, why the hell not. Imagine my surprise when I find it does smell good. I even had my GF smell it to confirm. She was astonished as well. I have no idea how to explain it.

I've had my phone since launch day and the smell is still as strong as the day I bought it. Anything organic that might have fallen into the phone would have changed smell by now. l have no idea what it is... it's so freaking strange.
 
A few years ago I fell in love with a Twinings tea called Brazilian Baia (black tea with coconut, vanilla and cocoa notes). It's no longer available, but I still have a small stash and was able to compare it. It's almost the identical smell.

Give it a sniff thinking "coconut and vanilla," and you'll see what I mean. :D

it stilll smells the same and hasn't reduced AT ALL. It's just like it was the day I posted this thread. I find that absolutely insane...
 
It is so wild that you brought this up...I combined my hotmail to go to my gmail account, and was deleting the info in the mail app that i used for hotmail, and my phone was locking up.

So, I popped the battery and I smelled that smell...made me think of this thread.

And here you are, reposting it...lol!

So, yeah, I smelled it!!
 
Well, I decided to uncover my phone, remove battery cover, and sure enough, smells good. Nice fragrance. Kinda flowery.

Then I read the rest of this tread, starting typing then stopped to smell it again. Same smell. Very intriguing.

Ill be sniffing my girlfriends phone when she gets home today. She also has a captivate.
 
Lol, I thought I had the only captivate with this weird flowery smell. All I have to is rest my nostril on the headphone jack and inhale lmao. It is quite a pleasant smell though...when I smell something bad I do this and it acts like my own personal febreze lol.
 
oh my god you're right lol. Take a strong wiff of the headphone jack and you can smell it!

Wow, I can't believe this is a wider known "issue". One day i was blowing dust out of my phone with the battery cover off and smelled something. I thought it was my hands from soap or something but then I made sure it wasn't. I was trying to associate the smell with something and it kinda smelled like coconuts. A closer inspection, and I determined it smelled like Malibu Rum. Hahaha, idk, its just my opinion on the smell of my phone
 
I think the first question that came to my mind is.. why were you smelling your phone with your battery off to begin with???????????

My nose is no further than three feet or so from my hands, so anything in my hands I can generally smell. I assume that is pretty universal to all primates and decedents of primates.
