It's Being Announced October 18!

wow - that's a lot sooner than i expected! i would say that, given the timing of the release/announcement, the RAZR was probably Moto's candidate/submission to be the Nexus. if so, i hope that means an unlockable BL.

it's looking like i won't have to wait too long to hold both the Nexus and RAZR in my hands. i was thinking i was going to have to wait at least another month after the Nexus for the RAZR to drop; and that was going to be one loooooooonnnnng month!

Interesting thought about it being a Nexus prototype, Huskergate.

Upon further review, it seems like 10.18 will be an announcement, not actual release. But still, they'll probably tell us when to expect it.

The fact that it's a qHD screen, though, is disappointing. I'll definitely be looking at it, along with the Vigor and Prime. The fact that it's an AMOLED screen, though, indicates that it will be a LOT better than the garbage they put on the Bionic.

yeah, the Panda said the screen is much better than the Bionic - not as crisp as a retina display, but still much better overall.

if the RAZR drops before (or around the same time) as the Nexus, which one you getting?? (i promise not to tell ck...)

Now I don't know what to do. Dammit I don't want to be tempted to buy this device before the Prime comes out!

This is great. I'm glad we will have choices. At the end of the day, it's going to come down to which device has ICS. I believe the Prime will be the only device running ICS this year. The Spyder may get it down the line, but I would much rather buy a phone that was optimized for ICS out of the gate. Now, if both the Spyder and Prime have ICS, that would make it a much more difficult decision. The Spyder looks like a pretty sweet design from the leaked pics.

Honestly, I will probably take a hard look at the RAZR running a movie. If it looks great, I don't know. . . .I'll be tempted for sure. But I gotta think that by the time it actually physically releases, we'll have an excellent idea of what to expect from Prime. So I'll know for sure by then.

What about you?

i'm not buying anything until they both are out, and i can hold them side by side (like Mags said). for me, it might come down to the bootloader, and whether the RAZR is unlockable. i really don't want a Blurred up phone for 2 years. but, i would definitely take another OG Nexus-type device. at the same time, it would be awful difficult to pass up an open, dev'r friendly Nexus device with those specs. right now, i'm just very confused and undecided. i'm hoping that the revelations/releases in the next couple of weeks help make my decision easier...

Panda is going to become one Sad Panda if he's feeding us BS these last few weeks

Panda hasn't said boo about the Spyder in about 2 months, so not sure if he's been playing with it much. the fact that he (as a Google person) commented on it at all tells me that it might have been Moto's candidate for the Nexus. either way, everything i've been reading indicates a pretty decent screen - that's no longer one of my concerns. now, the BL, that's a whole different story...

What the frak's going on around here? I'd think the RAZR would have its own following. This looks like just a guest bedroom in the Prime thread's house.

:p

:p

that's how you differentiate the true Android enthusiasts from the lemmings - who's in both threads, and who's just in the "epic thread"?? lol

i've been watching this phone for months. but, it's weird how some threads take on a life of their own. here, the Nexus thread is epic and OOC, while the Nexus thread on HoFo only has about 100 replies. meanwhile, the HoFo thread on the Spyder is 23 pages long, and this one is only 1....

Buzz on NP started on late August. So it's got good head start over Razr.

I'm quite surprised that Moto would put out their next flagship only a few months after Bionic. I feel so bad for Bionic folks.

From the Phandroid.com article in which Steven58 (the legend needs no introduction) provided information given to him from a "verified" VZW source:

The idea I’m getting from official testers is that the screen and user experience is much better in the Nexus device, and the overall advantage is the presence of Ice Cream Sandwich (I’ve personally noted this to be true). But I’ve also been told by those who have tested it that the RAZR is very fast, smooth, and has a great battery life. The screen, although not quite up to Nexus, is a big improvement over the Bionic for those who didn’t like it. Verizon is very, very excited for both devices. I don’t get the feeling they’re “siding” with one over the other, but I can tell you that they never had a lot of confidence in the Bionic having a lot of staying power. Their decision to release the Bionic as is was more of a contractual obligation than a real belief in the product. They are much more invested in the RAZR.

Yoda hinted to the last sentence a couple of months back, prior to Bionic's release. This article was headlined as being about a release date for Prime, but this info seems more revealing about RAZR. Great battery life is VERY compelling to me.

in the video, we can see an actual razor blade, as well as a kevlar vest, and a diamond (for the "diamond cut spun chrome" look) - all hints about the phone. also, at about :18 or :19 on the video (after it says "smarter"), the number 42 pops up. that has to mean something, doesn't it??

Yeah, I wondered about the 42 as well! What does that mean?

. . . .

I know, me too. And for Steven's source to say that Verizon knew it was crappy but released it anyway due to "contractual obligations" makes me respect them much, much less. But it rings true.

someone answered it for me over at HoFo - it's from the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, and supposedly is the key to the meaning of life. in other words, just some random, esoteric stuff thrown in there to mess with us... :)

I am really looking forward to this announcement. It seems like the hardware I have been waiting for. The Bionic would be a huge upgrade for me, but I felt like $300 would seem like a lot to have paid for the phone a few months later. Here we are with the Prime and the Spyder/Razr coming out soon and I feel vindicated for waiting.

I am interested in the Prime like many here for the ICS. However, as petty as it may seem, I assume there will be no notification light and no user replaceable/removable battery. Those two things are just too easy to include to allow them not to be included IMO. Moreso on the notification LED.

Ive seen the battery but I havent noticed the LED on the razr. Does one exist that we know of? I am making some assumptions on the Prime based on the manufacturer.

Where did you get that Prime will have non-removable battery? And is battery spec on Razr out already?

Honestly I don't see any particular feature on Razr that would sway me over from Prime. No ICS on board, Blur UI, qHD pentile screen, OMAP 4430, etc. And Samsung does way better job on phone camera than Motorola.
But I will still check out Razr when it comes. And if I'm given choice of only Razr vs Vigor, I will probably go with Razr.

Droid RAZR Specs Confirmed: High-Res Display, Speedy Processor

Well geez on second look it appears I was wrong on that one. I was under the false impression that Samsung was not in the habit of doing user replaceable batteries.

We still don't know about the screen or bootloader on the RAZR though. Those will be big swaying factors too. Like many that have posted here I too will wait till I can judge in person not just read some specs in rumors/announcement announcements.

Bottom line, I'm glad I didn't get the Bionic.

Please don't tell me you all haven't Hitchhiker's. Are you all that young, or do you need your geek merit badges taken away?
