Root Its here!!!! 2.2 froyo for samsung transform (by Solust)

NYCE, make sure you update the version of Froyo to Froyo 4, RC1 IS OUTDATED and Froyo 4 includes the keyboard fix among other fixes, and I'm sure Vamp would appreciate the change to the latest build aswell. Also, thank you for giving Vampirefo credit for his work.

My build number is now vampirefo.transform! I believe I am now rooted. I will do the Froyo after karate. Thanks to everyone who supplied support for me to not brick my phone. If you knew me, you would know how amazing this really is. Consider the tutorial idiot-proof. Now, can somebody walk me through my VCR? It's been flashing 12:00 for 20 years.:D

[I got the link from 'wwJoshDew's Froyo 4 update video, all rights go to whoever the original source of the uploader, Which is most likely Vampirefo]

Instructions

1. Download and install the SW Updater (86,252 KB). This will require you to reboot your computer after it is installed.
2. Download the Kernel/Recovery file (10,390 KB).
3. Navigate to c:\Program Files\Samsung Electronic\SWUpgrade\Models\Binary and delete EVERYTHING inside of this folder.
Note that in 64bit versions of Windows, you need to be in c:\Program Files (x86)\Samsung Electronic\SWUpgrade\Models\Binary

WARNING: LEAVING ANYTHING IN THIS FOLDER AT THIS STEP CAN BRICK YOUR PHONE!

4. Move kernel_recovery.tar to c:\Program Files\Samsung Electronic\SWUpgrade\Models\Binary

WARNING: UNZIPPING THE .tar FILE CAN AND WILL BRICK YOUR PHONE! ONCE THE FILE IS IN THE Binary FOLDER DO NOT TOUCH IT!

5. Run SWUpgrade and verify that the version number is 1.0.001 in the title bar. Any other version will come up with an error. This happened to me my first time through.
6. Follow all instructions in SW Upgrade, substituting the End key with the phone's Power key.
7. Your phone will now have Vampirefo's recovery and kernel! AND ROOT ACCESS!!!

NOW ON TO THE FROYO!!!!!!

I was about to root my phone first for Apps2SD and tether but HAVE NOT after reading these instructions.
PLease explain this:
"WARNING: LEAVING ANYTHING IN THIS FOLDER AT THIS STEP CAN BRICK YOUR PHONE!"
What do you mean by this? Nothing has happened here anyway? Is the tar file in the binary folder when you run the SW Updater or not? I thought we were supposed to clear EVERYTHING from the binary folder, move the tar file there and start the SW Updater. How could anyone brick their phone without even connecting the phone to the PC without starting the SW Updater? Nothing has begun in step 3 and 4 anyways!

What they are saying is that when you initially download the SWUpdater, there is a file in the Binary subfolder. You need to remove that one and then put the new one in. The new one must be the only thing in that folder and it must not be unzipped when you do the flash.

I did this to my phone and have been playing with Froyo for two days now. If my dumb @$$ can do this without bricking my phone, normal folks shouldn't have any problems.

I am still trying to wrap my head around what it is that I did so I can make an image of my current settings and start really messing with my phone.

Forgive me for my ignorance, is the #1 post The step by step the latest and greatest for the 2.2?

Yes it is. The link to the recovery kernel I believe is outdated. You can get the new link at the SDX site. I would strongly recommend that you read the entire thread on Froyo on the SDX site before you do this. It isn't difficult to do, but due dilligence demands that you have some understanding of what you are doing and what bugs haven't been fixed yet. It's nothing that I can't live with, and they have done and incredible job building this, but the front facing camera isn't fixed, two keys on the manual keyboard are not correctly mapped, and I believe the flash doesn't work on the camera. The mad geniuses are working on updating this, but they are doing it as a hobby for their pleasure. The main guy doing this (vampirefo) seems to be answering questions on the SDX site promptly for people having issues.

LOL. Just wanted to make sure. OK, so now that you have the latest and the greatest, does the phone perform any faster than before?

It might be a little faster. I am going to install the ext4 file system soon and I hear that makes your phone boot up in 38 seconds. I can play angry birds on my phone now, the original, not the seasons edition. I don't use my phone for a whole lot other than talking, so I'm not using it to it's full extent. I just sent my first text message a few months ago, so I'm still overwhelmed by all of this stuff.

Be proud man. Haha, the want for more to do on your phone will come in time :P

Alright, froyo4.zip is installed and so is launcher pro and now my transform is SMOOTH and responsive. I like the new snappy feel and so far I have no FCs.
The volume seems lower than 2.1 but something I can live with for now.

So, what app do I use for wifi tethering? I tried darkstone's app from my HD2 but it does not work.

Just download 'Wireless Tether' from the market, that should work.

Tried a couple bro but they just don't work. Got any app in particular that will work?

#1 is a true statement. It's free, easy, and takes just a minute. You should probably get familiar with the SDX site anyway if you plan on rooting your phone. There is a lot of good info there.

Good luck, post if you need any further help.

I'm trying to be helpful. I have free time and anything I can answer I will. That way the guys with the real knowledge can keep finding new and better things to do to our phones. :D

Totally dumb question. So does this "pre-leak" of Froyo mean that at some point it's going to automatically push to all our Transforms by Sprint? And we'll just have to hit/click "update" to install it? I am too chicken to try to do this rooting, installing 2.2 myself because I absolutely need my phone to work as I wait for calls on job interviews. I'm terrified I'll screw up the directions and brick it (I am a Murphy, after all).

This has nothing to do with Sprint and it is not a pre-leak. This version of Froyo was adapted from a different phone's Froyo release and converted for us by a group of crazy smart people. Vampirefo at SDX did the majority of the work on this, and several others did field testing to help him. He does not work for Sprint or Samsung, but has the knowledge to do this.

That being said, you can brick your phone doing this. I installed this version of Froyo on my phone without bricking it. If I lost 3 more IQ points you'd have to water me. If I can do it, you can do it.

Thank you, but I think you mistake intelligence for determination. I seriously have two watches. One for before daylight savings time and one for after. I bought two identical watches and had my son set them an hour apart. I can't figure that crap out.

I'm a retired guy with all kinds of time on my hands. I have read the threads on the SDX site several times that deal with Froyo and rooting. I printed the instructions out and crossed them out word by word when I was rooting my phone. If someone would have video taped it they could have made some money. I still couldn't tell you what any of the steps on the guide actually mean.
