I haven't been in the US lately, but it seems that an international GSM phone should work on T-Mobile and AT&T or any of the MVNOs that use their equipment. OnePlus's marketing strategy is diametrically opposed to the large carriers that rake in tons of cash subsidizing phones, so I doubt you will see them embracing OnePlus. That means no Verizon or Sprint, hence little incentive to produce a CDMA version. Of the GSM carriers, I could only imagine T-Mobile offering it, but like I said, I haven't been in the US lately.

That's surprising because it's a Chinese company. If you haven't heard about it on their home turf, that implies that they have zero marketing budget.
 
Yeah it's a high end "no compromise" 5" phone running CM. Are there any credible spec leaks?
I'm just wondering how profitable it will be. Like it or not, if they aren't expecting to shift many units it will probably be very expensive and have poor Dev support :(
I've seen zero marketing here in UK. I'd never have heard of it if I wasn't a geek

China can be quite a noisy place when it comes to new cellphones, and unless you're the likes of Samsung or Apple(both foreign brands of course), it can be very difficult to make yourself heard.

When and if I see it in the local China Mobile or China Unicom stores, that's when I'll really know about it. :thumbup:

BTW I'm getting a new cellphone in June, so far it looks like it's going to be a Nexus 5(not Chinese) 32GB from the UK.

Actually, it's a 5.5" screen in a 5" chassis, at least that's the way they are presenting it. The company itself has been leaking specs, so the leaks are credible. Check it out here.

Definitely check out the OnePlus One before you buy. It will be revealed in April and apparently available soon after that.

Ah yeah I forgot about that headline, 5.5" display in a phone the same size as a 5"!

I don't know what they're going to do.

I was considering another Chinese phone recently, the Oppo Find 5. With the US or UK version, it seems to be very open and Oppo endorses CM, OmniRom, etc, on their international websites. Yet the mainland PRC version of the Find 5 has something called ColorOS, which is based on CyanogenMod, but appears to be very customised and labotomised. Not sure how locked down the PRC version is though. The government likes to have everyone using Baidu and not Google, and makes it difficult to do otherwise, maybe cellphone makers have to do the same?
 
Phone had a lot of hype when the deal was first announced, but I'm not going to by a companies first phone they produce. That's too much risk. I'd rather wait and see 1-2 years from now how those buyers have fared.

The CM support is really the reason this has gotten the news it has. Being the first phone too ship with a custom (community) ROM is certainly nothing to scoff at, but its just as easy to flash it on any mainstream phone nowadays if you're into having it. ;)

Not worth the risk for me, id rather have pure AOSP. But I'll love reading reviews from those that buy it. :)
 
For me I'm more than willing to take a calculated risk. An early adopter, I'm very aware of the pitfalls. I've been following every single article about the company and the phone. It's an exciting new project with lots of potential.

The fact that no carrier in the US is likely to sell the Plus One is actually a good thing from my perspective, it won't have bloatware or carrier branding, two big advantages far as I'm concerned.

Finally since it will be but one of many phones I have, if it goes down it won't leave me stranded without a phone.

I wouldn't think that waiting 1-2 years is necessary, but I would definitely wait a couple of months and watch the feedback in the forums. But I do that even with all the mainline manufacturer phones I buy.

So likely intended mainly for export, most Chinese phones are dual-SIM. In fact Samsung makes dual-SIM phones just for China.
