It's official - VM is getting Froyo 2.2

Better late then never, but never late is better...

I suppose I can go ahead and flash the Sprint update now and deal with the issues until VM update is available.

That is good news. I would also follow your actions but:

1. In Spring, how do I go back to 2.1 so ican get the "official" update?
2. How difficult is it to use the Spring update now?
3. How possible is it that I brick my new 2.1 phone?

:)

Thanks!

Personally, I'm just happy we are getting it. I was worried for awhile that we wouldn't ever get it.

Good things come to those who wait.

i konw ur exactly right and sprint was impationt and they got a messed up update and hopefully ours will be ok lol hope we can use hotspot for free:D

... hope we can use hotspot for free:D

I would highly doubt that Virgin Mobile would be that kind; especially when they are offering their version of MiFi (for me, it's not worth $40/month and the initial $150 as I don't travel all that much).

Like I have said before, I will go ahead and wait it out until Spring and see what happens. Hopefully, Virgin Mobile will get their act together before launching an update.

what happened with their update?

I heard it was released in the beginning of jan.. but not sure why.

I was planning to root my phone this weekend. Should I wait for the 2.2 update instead? How much of a pain will it be to un-root (assuming I have to) to get the update when it comes out?

Wow. This sucks. I already rooted and flashed my intercept, and I did a one-click flash/root, which consisted of hooking up my phone and clicking a button.

But SERIOUSLY Virgin:

By the time this comes out everyone else will have 3.0!!!:mad::mad:

Ummm.... 3.0 is developed for Tablets only. 2.4 is what you probably mean.

So you're saying that I should wait on rooting?

Yes, I would. Once we get 2.2, temp root (if dont want perm) and remove the 2-3 VM bloatware. Then use titanium backup to backup phone (just in case) and cache mate free to clear cache. I temp root every once in a while to clear that cache.

It is almost here! (:-))

According to Virgin Mobile USA Twitter account, Samsung Intercept should receive Android 2.2 (Froyo) upgrade around 3/25/2011.

The actual Virgin Mobile USA Twitter account text is as :

"We know you have been asking for specifics on when VM will be getting the update to Android Froyo 2.2….it will be available about 3/25."

It's been puched back to April 4th... and it isn't all going to happen in 1 day, may take a few days before you get your update.

I read somewhere that it will be rolled out in waves. What that means that upgrade available notifications will be sent to few thousand subscribers per day starting April 1st week (Could start April 1 or April 4). The upgrade will be rolled out in this manner during entire April.

I request to the people who receive upgrade notification from Virgin Mobile USA or Google, please please post immediately on this forum or any other form of your liking. That way those who do not want to wait for notifications can try the following manual upgrade steps:

Can’t wait to receive the OTA prompt? Try the steps below to update manually.

Backup everything on your phone before you do any upgrade steps. Also, please read feedback on Forums from other people who already installed Froyo (Android 2.2) on their Virgin Mobile USA Samsung Intercept phones.
