Help ive downloaded the 2.3.5 zip file...how do i install?

dont think i really explained this....

i downloaded the full update via my pc inside a .zip file, ive copied the contents to my phones sd card but dont know how to install it!??!:confused:

A couple of questions for you...

When you say you downloaded 2.3.5, do you mean version 2.3.5 of Android?
Is your phone rooted or were you trying to get the latest update that is being talked about at the moment (the new version of sense that is being pushed via OTA updates at the moment)?

If you could let us know, we will try and point you in the right direction on how to do this!

i downloaded a DHD version of 2.3.5 with sense 3.0 zip file. ive had a look at the contents of the folder and it does seem to be real. ive also scanned it with antivirus and its clean. my phone is unrooted

One more questions for you... is your phone un-branded or does it have the usual carrier branding on it?

Should also have asked where you got the ROM from... just to make sure that it is an unbranded version... could you put a link on for where you got it?

If it is the correct version, then you wouldn't want to unzip the file, so you will need to take the stuff you stuck on your SD card back off.
 
nah - not actually downloading it... just wanted to have a quick look at where it came from and what it was called.

It does look like the right thing... I'm just double checking about flashing this for you - will reply once I've got the info for you.

I am pretty sure that you'd need to put the zip file on your SD card and flash that, not the contents of the zip file.

Gimme a little longer and I'll come back to you!!

I've sent a message to one of the other guides and asked him to have a look at this thread to try and get you the answer you need.

I think that the way you would flash this on to your phone would be to:
Put the zip file on your SD card
Turn the phone off
Turn the phone back on again, whilst holding the volume down button
The phone should then just see the update and apply it to your phone

Once done, you can then take the zip file off your SD card and you should be up and running on the updated version - with Sense 3.0

I'm posting this now, so you have the info (it's late and I'm up early tomorrow)... Please bear in mind that, although I have rooted my phone and have flashed different ROM's on my phone, I have never appllied a stock update like this... This is how I understand this to be done and I would wait for confirmation from El Presidente or Xyro!
 
Right, just had a look at the file and it's not the update. The software version for the new update is 3.12.405.1 whereas that link gives a file with software version of 3.06.405.1. I suspect what you've downloaded is the zip file for this which appears to be a custom ROM and would need to be flashed in clockwork - you would only be able to do this if you had rooted your phone. Just to note, the stock bootloader will only accept files with a name of PD98IMG.zip and that have been digitally signed/encrypted by HTC so the file you've got there wouldn't ever load.

You've a couple of options, you can either wait for the update (rollout is due to finish around the 15th I think) or you could flash the relevant RUU listed here (match the software version to the one above) but I can't confirm that works properly and it would totally wipe the phone clean in the process where as OTA Update wouldn't.

I'd suggest leaving it, you'll probably get the upgrade soon enough anyway
 
I haven't checked the link, but it sounds like you're spot on DURX. That is not the official firmware.

Official updates come in there forms, the OTA update, RUU.exe files or P_____IMG.zip files.
 
Thanks go out to Prez on this one... the last post I made was plagerised from a PM with him on the subject of this thread.

I wouldn't touch the file you've downloaded though Barry... it's a custom rom and wouldn't work on your phone, as it's not rooted.
