Help I've got no ram!!!!!

Hey I'm consistently running on 2.19 gigs in use and all my apps are closed. I've gone to the application manager in the settings and shut all that down and I held down the front button and made sure all that crap was closed to. Is the operating system really using almost all of the ram on this rig?

Thanks.

Mines currently using 1.9GB.
As far as ram is concerned, Android is the opposite to say a Windows computer. The more ram used the better.
Are you getting any random reboots, force closes etc.?
Whatever you do, don't install a task killer.

Nah I have nothing task management related installed. I just notice that its loading a bit slower when i fire up some of my apps.

I think you have a lot of apps running on your phone and the option is to uninstall some, but not to kills. The more RAM used the better the experience and also the lesser RAM available the less the performance.

Probably reboot once a day and delete anything that's running that's not needed. I have over 500 apps installed (including the built in stuff) but only a dozen or so are running at once.
I once posted a question asking if it's worth doing a factory reset every now and then to clean up, the same as people do with Windows.
At the time I was told it wasn't necessary, but I wonder if that topic should be revisited...?

I must read one of these type of posts at least once a day in various places. I must stress that it is not the poste's fault they believe they have a problem, as stated above it is a hangover from Windows.

RAM is used completely differently by Android (and it's "Daddy" operating system Linux/Unix) the only thing that can be said that applies to all operating systems is that more is always better. Here is a very useful article explaining it all :

If your recevers in the apps, like say facebook which will launch at device boot, and device runs media scanner, and device mounts sd card. Are active, there are more, say end phone call state perhaps, are active. Then killing apps dose not do alot of good.

You must also turn off the desired recevors for auto run.
You can do this using romtoolbox I belive, or an xposed fraimwork module.

You can also run greenify, thats all I do on my note ii and I dont worrt about ram at all. Ever.

I also use a task killer but only for closing an app when there is an issue with code bug. Or browser errors. It is easyer to just kill everything [as I keep things unchecked that I dont want off] then going to force close it in the settings.

Thats about all a task killer is good for now adays.

Man you were so right about the reboot! I don't even know what kind of trash I must have had running. This is the first non-iphone smart phone I've had and I never rebooted my iphone unless I was installed a new OS. Great tip. I sitting pretty at .83 right now. Thanks buddy.

"My Note 3 would typically hover around 2GB of RAM being used out of a possible 2.38GB. No fear that we

OK, so there are several reasons that the Note 3 provides a really buttery smooth user experience.

#1 is that the system has 3 GB of DDR3 Ram
#2 is that the 'Internal' 32 GB of storage is really really fast for SD Card behavior.

I just did a speed test using the SD Test Tool and it reports the information displayed in the screen shot that is attached.

The performance of this memory is phenomenal. Then when you combine it with an 'External' 64 GB Extreme SDxC SanDisk device, you really don't have anything to slow down the system.

I couldn't believe the 202 MBP's Write speed and 786 MBP's Read speed of the internal 32 GB of storage. It is almost as fast as the DDR3 memory. But I've repeated the test several time and it is always that fast.

When I ran this test on earlier HTC Inspire and One X devices, it would always keep the performance below the shown max's of 20 MBP's of the speed-o-meters of the tool.

All this combined makes the device, even when it has to switch environments when you start up an alternative application that isn't currently running or even one that is hibernated, really responsive and fun to work with.

Just my 2 cents.

it seems like this information has to be repeated every so often.

Every newbie is tabula rasa (a blank slate) so sure. The funny thing (to me) is that *nix has been around longer (15 years longer) than Windows, but everyone (well, probably 99% of the phone-using population) bases everything on Windows because that's the only OS they really know. Then some of them repeat Windows-truth as universal truth. It's to be amused by.

It may be amusing, but it holds then back and makes other OSs look bad because they know the "truth", when really things are different. A cunning ploy by Microsoft to make Ancroft look bad by putting a forked and old version of it on a device starved of RAM (512meg) and forced to use Microsoft services might make users thing hang on Android is horrible, I want a Windows phone, look how well Bing (or whatever) works on a Windows phone. Meanwhile Nokia (now a Microsoft whipping boy company) who have actually done this are tarnished further. Microsoft win, win. No blame (it's A Nokia phone) and wow Android is really garbage, I neeed a Windows phone.
