I've had it with Android

Here's a link to all the firmware files, just search for the I8160 (Galaxy Ace 2). Firmwares | SamMobile

Then download the correct one for your country/carrier and follow the instructions. Instead of using their firmware file, use the one you download from sammobile

Thanks for the link. The file expands to just one file. Yet the 'de facto' downgrade articles (the one that ends up with a Russian system) comes with three files. Trying Odin with that single file in the PDA position, it runs through to an 'All threads completed' but nothing happens...no download....nada.

That's a value pack file. You need to install a full downgrade file first with the three files, then apply that.

Run Odin...with the three Russian files (PDA/CSC and PIT locations) ...then run Odin again but this time using the UK file in the PDA location? Is that correct?

My mum has an Ace 2 and im pretty sure its still running GB. so would people NOT recommend updating it to JB?
Im goin to her house tonight but not sure if she'l let me reset it so ill probably just leave it alone.
Think if i just flashed ICS onto it it would be ok without a wipe? I think i updated my old Xperia from GB to ICS without wiping it

Just checked my mums phone and its runnin GB and has an update available. Its running like crap just now. Clearing cache helped a bit. Im not sure whether to take the update

My phone is lower end than the OP's but I get at least iPhone 3gs speed and very fluid animations. However I had to root, flash a ROM, and edit some stuff with ROM toolbox pro to do that. Never been happier though. I can do ten times more with my $50 Galaxy Precedent than a $499 iPhone 4.

Its so satisfying when you do that. My 1st android cost

The biggest boost was changing the VM heap and disabling a lot of unnecessary background receivers. A good idea if you got a ton of apps installed.

I think it makes Android use more before garbage collection kicks in. On a low RAM phone it helps a lot if too many apps try to fit in there

Nope, you have to find the correct base ROM. For example, on a Galaxy SL, you need to install the 3 files for XXKPE 2.3.4 before you can add the DXKPE 2.3.5 ROM, you can't use any other base ROM for the DXKPE. You need the compatible one.

It may be that Samsung actually made a mistake by updating this device to JB, but having said that, countryman may well be one of the many who find that Apple devices actually suit their needs/lifestyle better. And that's okay too!:)

One of the few, perhaps.

Although I am not married to any one platform (I got Android, Apple, and even BlackBerry) I can't get on iOS long before I start missing what Android can do. And, since I managed to work out the bugs I used to deal with (well, I call them bugs, stuff like that annoying "sorry! The process...not responding..." GONE!) I just cannot go back to Apple. It currently exists only to run games yet to support android or games who's progress won't transfer and which I played when Android was far too clunky for myself at the time and when I couldn't change that.

This.

Basically you get what you paid for, a low end phone isn't representative of an entire OS.

Based on the specs of the phone,I wouldn't call it a low end phone, more like a mid range phone, you get a dual core 800Mhz CPU,you get 4Gb Storage,768Mb ram, dual cameras, with a flash at the back, and it can do 720P recording, plus the screen has a decent resolution.

For example I consider the Samsung Galaxy Young,LG Optimus L3 II etc too be low end phones....

Android or apple. Or Windows. Or even blackberry. No device is perfect.

You may very well be happier with apple. Just don't expect any freedom.

Look no further. Your answer was here all along..

As for the problem. Talk to your provider. Also, the ace is a slightly out dated phone. Putting higher upgrades on it us not recommended. It is by the phone because its searching for patches and finds an update, but won't fix your problem, only make it worse. Having any android device for over a year (imo) is too long. It starts crashing and gets really buggy.

I rest my case ! :D

I actually had my Galaxy SL for more than 2 years before I got a replacement last April from my contract renewal. Worked well with no major issues until then. Right now I'm experimenting on flashing custom ROMs on it since its not my primary device anymore. Lol

It's not really been my experience with Android, except for really crappy budget devices from Shenzhen, which is something I only know too well.

I had a Samsung Galaxy S last me almost two years, until I busted the screen, but it never gave me any problems. And I would expect to get a few years use out of my current mid-range Samsung.

A friend of mine here in China, tells me his Galaxy Ace is starting to act funky, home button is very hard to press, re-booting by itself. Told him it's probably time to get a new phone, he's had it almost two years and didn't pay a lot for it.

I had my Marquee for 2 years and never had an issue. The only reason I don't have it now is because it got stolen.

Phones should last at least 2 years, and thank goodness many android phones last much longer. I would run screaming from Android if I had to replace my phone every year.

I don't think this is true at all. I had the original Droid for over 2 years with very few problems. Now, I've had the Galaxy Nexus for almost 2 years. It still runs good for me. You just can't buy a phone with outdated specs when it's new and expect it to run like a champ two or three years later. My wife has had her Iphone 4 for 2 years and she complains about how it's slowed down and has some issues. It's just as outdated.

Excellent post, if someone buys an S4 now it'll last for two years no problem, by that time it'll be a mid range phone but it has long term use. People just expect to much from every phone.

I think the reason it runs jellybean slow is 4GB of internal hard drive space, but having <1GB of ram doesn't help. Stock jellybean itself uses roughly 3GB, then you have to add touchwiz on top of that. Jelly bean slows down and becomes unstable if you have less than 165MB of space left. I imagine after the os, there's not much left. Then simply downloading apps would push one over the threshold.

Very good points. Don't get me wrong, there were a few things I immediately liked about JB...for example, being able to clear notifications without the app having to be fired up.

But now back on GB and so Happy Bunny.

Glad to hear that it's running well again and that you're happy. That's what's most important afterall. :)
