JB for the U.K

LOL at people saying branded getting before unbranded.
I've got an unbranded version and expected it last. The exact same thing happened with ics and the galaxy s2

It is strange. I was expecting unlocked phones you get it first. Came as a surprise to me for sure.

Just off the top of my head maybe Samsung has some kind of financial deal with carriers to give them the JB update first. After all in the case of an Unlocked phone they already have your money, but carriers need to keep you loyal.

or if they give it to a carrier branded handset first and it screws up then the user will pester the carrier rather than samsung so they don't get so many irrate people to deal with it. Then give it to the unclocked handsets when the problems are ironed out!

Thats probably rubbish, I have no idea why they would do it. Apparently 3 were first with ICS on the S2 as well which is funny because they were last at providing the patch updates to ICS!

In a statement, Samsung delivered the news every Galaxy S3 owner has been waiting for.

"Samsung UK can confirm that the roll out of Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) has begun for our Galaxy S3 customers." The South Korean tech giant goes on to say that the much-desired update, "will be available across all networks over the coming weeks, pending software testing and approvals."

We already know that the Jelly Bean update has begun on Three, with the numerical network confirming that the fresh new software had commenced its glorious roll-out.

If you're a Galaxy S3 owner on a different network, expect to see the update winging its way to your mobile soon. We'll be keeping a weather eye on how networks are doing with the update, so keep your peepers here.

If you want to check whether the update is available for your S3, connect to Wi-Fi (the install file is a big'un), go to 'Settings', then 'About Device' and tap on 'Software Update'. This will let you check for any new available software.

The Jelly Bean update isn't a radical upgrade from Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, but introduces new features like Google Now.

Hi, there isn't any software update option on my phone! Phil

Vodafone just told me...

"Thank you for contacting Vodafone Customer Services with regard to Jelly Bean.

I would like to inform you that our engineers are already working on the issue and once it is verified, it will be updated on our website. As of now, I am sorry to inform you that we do not have an official communication of the exact date or week when it will be available."

i'm on three and getting this message:

"Access to the software update service is provided to users in the order in which they request it. Try again later."

I guess i'm still in the queque.

I got the same message, logged onto Kies and uploaded from there. Working fine.

Kies is an application for pc / Mac to connect to samsung phones. Its on the samsung website

Kies hasn't worked for me for ages  and sods law, as 3UK were so sloooow in updating to ICS I updated using odin. which debranded my phone! Now 3 are the first  I'd have to wait, but couldn't :p, so updated to JB again using odin, and everything seems fine.

Much preferred the Samsung logo when turning the phone on, than the 3 one though!
Not tried kies yet, hopefully that works too now!

As posted n Vodafone offical eforum yesterday

"Great news, the Android 4.1 JellyBean update will be made available for Samsung Galaxy S3 handsets purchased from Vodafone on Monday.

The update will be a staggered release, meaning customers will be notified in batches that it’s available for over the air download over the course of several days.

If you choose to download it over the air, we’d recommend using WiFi as the file size is substantial.

Alternatively, if you’d like to update without waiting for the over the air prompt, connect your phone to your PC with Samsung Kies and you’ll be able to update once it’s available on Monday"

My GS3 and my girlfriend's are unbranded but we have a 24 month contract with Virgin, which I believe uses the t-mobile/orange network ( UK ).

So I was wondering when we would get the JB update???

I'm using the 3.uk official ROM on my unbranded S3 and its great.

Just get 3.uk logo on boot and shut down and three removable apps.

Other than that its great!
