JB releases, LS8, LSD & LSJ, etc:

So far, we flashers have had 3 main iterations of theSamsung Jelly Bean ROM.

The first was the leaked release, LSJ, in mid November 2012.

Next came, LS8, which was the first official release on the 23rd January 2013.

The latest version is LSD which came out on the 8th February and replaced the original LS8.

Since it would seem that Google release these builds to the manufacturers for their bibs and bobs, TouchWiz, etc; and also these have to get approval from the various locations telecommunications authorities and then have to be passed to carriers for the addition of carrier bloatware, my contention is this...

I believe that the original order of build is LS8 which was swiftly replaced by LSD and that LSJ, the leak, is probably the newest build and has not gone through all the rigmarole of the others, although this would not include the carrier stage as they are all unbranded.

From my point of view, there's not much difference between all 3 builds. However, I spent the longest, 9 weeks, on LSJ, without any issues at all and have recently reverted back to it as it offered such sterling service. Also I, "feel", that for me, this is my favourite out of the 3, by a whisker. Having said that, the LS8 modem is slightly better for me.

Please feel free to shoot me down.

OK class... discuss. ;)

UPDATE

Although the title of the thread refers to LS8, LSD and LSJ, there have been even more releases to-date, as follows...

LS4, LS8, MS1, MS5, MS8, MS9 LSD, LSE, LSF, LSH, LSJ, LSN, LSS and LST.

Your opinion is widely supported on XDA as well, most people have stated that LSJ was the most stable they have had and we all know that it contained more "core" functionality that isnt in the later releases

I didn't know that kelis32. Perhaps I should spend more time on xda and less on Android Forums... nah! :p

Right... almost beer-o-clock!

LSJ for me.

Both LSJ and LS8 have been very good indeed to be fair, but I had my first bootloop on LS8 today. Apart from this, nothing serious. Only the odd niggle here and there, but I dont recall any problems at all on my several weeks on LSJ. And the stock LSJ browser had the edge zoom which I found extremely handy.

I've not tried LSD yet and still on LS8 currently, and will hold back until something better on LSD comes along.

LSD for me & by some way, even though only on it for few days.

I had some niggles on LS8 & didnt stay very long at all. LSJ was OK, but not great when I first tried it. Having said that, when I recently installed LSD, I did the whole hog clean up, wipe, OTT fresh install. If I did this originally on LSJ, it probably was comparable or, as is the consensus, better than LSD.

Sticking with LSD for now as my phone currently does what I like, how I like :D

Never bother to switch from LSJ. When LS8 and later LSD came out I decided to wait a little longer and see other people opinions bout them. Following the NeatRom thread along with other sources, I decided to stay on LSJ.
Very stable, very smooth just the way a like it. Plus it has the most features between all releases.
Probably ironass is as always:) right. This release is the most recent one or at least the least combed one.

Wow! That's 2 things that I've learnt since posting this...

1. There is a lot more support for LSJ than I imagined and nobody has disagreed with the release order I proposed. Having said that, it has been pointed out to me that, apart from anything else, J is in fact 6 letters on from D and that if that was leaked 3 months ago and no official builds have been released for it, or close, it does demonstrate the, "lead in", time from build to release could be 4 or 5 months.

I would tend to agree however I find LSD smoother than any others :-)

I found them all to be pretty smooth but for me the LSJ is by far the most battery friendly of the lot as I found the first time round and now, again, this time with the 2 other releases to compare it to.

Same here ironass, I thought I was the only one that likes LSJ among the other builds.

To quote the X Files poster, "We are not alone". I fully expected to return to this thread to find that there was total disagreement.

Probably ironass is as always:) right.

Far from it dramed! I can think of at least 2 instances this week alone where Slug has quietly saved my derriere and I frequently call Hawker in when I get out of my comfort zone with questions on the forum or PM'd to me and not forgetting Syd, who is stupid enough to test some of my, "theories". ;)

2. The second thing I've learnt is, "Don't drink out of damp glasses".

Need more coffee!

iron(smart)ass :D

I noticed that the G variant that has been released is LSR but this comes without the multi window option, can anyone remember if that was standard in LSJ

Pretty sure it was standard with lsj just one of the many features that it came with that official leaks didn't have.

I'm wandering if the leaked version is the one that the developers were running for themselves within Samsung? Assuming not all of them are out testing the s4!

Not so sure , but i remember flashing the initial leak provided by calvo1 links on my friend`s SII and not getting the multiwindow. Only after reflashing Neat release got that one.
Might be wrong though.:o

I am considering upgrading to I9100JHLS4_I9100PTRLS2_PTR, but need to know the following after reading the features of the ROM:
1-Kies support . Does this mean my device will not be rooted during the installation ?
2- Stocks Arabic font ( Optional) . How can I get this option?
3- Arabic right to left fix ( optional) . How can I get this option ?

All in all is that I am looking to upgrade to 4.1.2 with Arabic support, but need the use of Keis, and I knew that leaked ROM will root the phone, which will prohibit the use of Keis.

A quick, "heads-up"...

mseif is not posting about stock JB ROM's but rather he is referring to the Wanamalite ROM recommended by kelis32, here.

The wanamlite ROM contains arabic language packs but this will require you rooting your phone first, see here

Yes you are right, and I am mixed up, so I will restrict the questions to one. If the JHLS4 Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean is a Stock Firmware, does this means that my phone will not be rooted, so I can still use Kies?

The firmware you are referring to, JHLS4, is not stock firmware, rather it is a custom ROM, Wanamalite.

If and when a stock firmware is released for your original, out-of-the-box, firmware and CSC code and you flash it via Odin, you will no longer be rooted and will be able to update, in future, via Kies.

Thank you ironass, so the words "Stock Firmware" mentioned in the title of this ROM in this URL Update Galaxy S2 I9100 to JHLS4 Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean Stock Firmware
caused my confusion.

caused my confusion.

After investigation, the code, JHLS4, is part and parcel of the official Samsung JB release for the firmware designated as i9100PTRLS2 which is the Orange carrier branded firmware for Israel.

Therefore, if PTR is your original CSC code, as mentioned above, and you flash this you will be able to update via Kies

I have tried all 3 variants, LS8, LSJ and LSD.
I have found them all to be smooth, quick and reliable. The only issue I did have seemed to be with mods that I flashed.

Battery life is excellent, everything works and all 3 are a vast improvement over ICS.
