How great is this phone btw.....
Well I shall digress at the start, so if you want the actual business jump ahead ;-)
My mrs went for a nap while my son was asleep in his buggy, all strapped in.she woke to laughter and other noises, seems he managed to get out his buggy and grabbed both her s3 and the house phone and was throwing them into the dogs water bowl.
So while it dries, she needed a phone, she previously used my old s2, but her father is now using it. But her brothers old s2 just happened to be sitting, so my plan was root, backup, clear and flash a previous backup from when she had an s2....
Or so I thought! As well as the screen being damaged, it seems the usb port is too and although it charges, it would not connect to my pc at all :-(
So,I did a bit of research and ended up doing this....
I downloaded busy box installer.zip put it on my sd card, rebooted into stock recovery and installed it from there.
Booted back into the phone and it had successfully rooted(I did have to update super su) anyway, I had root, but Rom manager did wanna give me a recovery :-(
So I added my account to the phone, downloaded mobile Odin pro(which I had never successfully used) from here I managed to flash siyah kernel
Happy days,I had a custom recovery :-D but the backup wouldn't flash! So after much flashing and moving etc etc I flashed neat Rom to get the same recovery I had when the backup was made. She now has it all working without ever connecting to a computer
