Help Jelly Bean 4.2

Should I update my Galaxy Nexus to 4.2? I only just got the OTA update lol, I'm in the UK.

I'm hesitant because I've read articles about the battery drain and how the December month has disappeared in this 4.2 update. On the other hand I want to try out this Photo Sphere feature :D

For the December bug, only you can tell if you can live with it for a while. I haven't had any battery life issues. If you use Bluetooth for anything important, I'd recommend waiting. I haven't been able to turn Bluetooth on since updating, and I'm not alone.

Have you personally seen the December bug and Bluetooth problems on your phone then? Which version of the Galaxy Nexus do you have?

I forgot to add it's the GSM Galaxy Nexus I have.

The December bug only affects adding dates (i.e. birthday, anniversary) to a contact, but yes, my phone has this issue. Bluetooth won't turn on for me. Mine is the GSM Galaxy Nexus from the Play Store.

As stated by UncleMike, the 'December' issue is confined to adding an event to your People/Contacts, i.e. birthdays amongst others, whereby you only have November (as of today) or January 2013 onwards. Bluetooth is/has not been a problem since going to 4.2. YOu can either waith for Google to release a fix for the 'December' bug or go to an AOSP based ROM (they are really enhanced stock ROMs) where most of the developers have already fixed that bug. In addition they offer very handy enhancements over the stock 'Quick Settings' tiles in the Nav bar - the one I use is AOSP R6 from XDA Forum here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1821673. On this ROM everything is pretty much stock including a tweaked Kernel which makes everything more fluent than pure Google stock and provides better battery life. Choice is yours.

I believe you will need to be on 4.2 before being upgraded to 4.2.1 as 4.2.1 is just a patch to fix the December bug in the contacts app.

I would go for it though. most people are experiencing just as good battery if not better. most say it is just as smooth if not smoother than 4.1.

you just see all these posts because people dont come on the forums to give praise (usually) for something...they come to forums to bitch about something not working.

in short, your chances of having a bug free update to 4.2 is pretty good....but there may be issues which can be solved by flashing the stock image from google.

I'd upgrade. It's an improvement. Though Photo Sphere isn't that exciting, nor did I find it stitched pictures together very well (though there may be some trick to using it that helps).

I think the updates sometimes cause problems with existing apps, I had some issues with video playback ever since 4.1.1. But a factory reset solved all that, and it's generally great. The camera app is a bit clunky sometimes, but I am glad to be rid of that stupid 4.1 thing where the picture you take jumps out and floats off into the corner.

Ah I've upgraded and I'm not seeing many bugs in all honesty. The bluetooth works fine and the camera app is pretty good :P At least its a leap from the standard panorama. I still want a patch release though because it can be laggy sometimes with pictures and when I rotate the phone when taking pictures. It's not a smooth transition from landscape to portrait and vice versa. I can see the great Galaxy Nexus ageing already lol!

Was bluetooth on at the time the OTA was applied? Are you able to turn it on and off after the OTA or is it just always on?

Bluetooth was not on at the time of the update, however I did have it plugged into the mains if that's any significance. Yes I am able to turn it on and off after the update.

However my Bluetooth received history has been wiped.

I upgraded on Nexus7 and Galaxy Nexus today, and both are doing fine...I think I did have bluetooth on on both, as a matter of fact, and no problems...
