Jelly Bean Rom Guide & Mods

They are the only ways how the brick bug can rear its ugly head.
I don't know for certain if this is present in this JB release however, but if PhilZ kernel is guaranteed to have MMC_CAP_ERASE set to 0 then its better to be safe than sorry

Link to Kernel in OP mate

As mentioned I restored a back up of Neat then reflashed via Mobile Odin Pro which allowed me to flash PhilZ kernel at the same time so my phone never had the stock kernel with Brick Bug. I like that idea.

Courtesy of Hawker (The only way to get Brick Bugged)
1. You have flashed a rogue kernel that has MC_CAP_ERASE=1 (Stock Jelly Bean has this)
2. You subsequently perform any sort of wipe (eg. cache, dalvik, factory reset) or restore via CWM Recovery whilst still on this rogue kernel.

A Flash of PhilZ Kernel should be fine as long as you DO NOT WIPE

I wouldnt do anything until hopefully Hawker spots this and confirms this is the case

Good job on the updated op, thanks also for the link! I've no problem waiting for a solution, beats being too hasty and destroying the phone... My only worry is that if I flash philz kernel WITHOUT doing a wipe, a script within his kernel will force a wipe before installation casuing the same problem.

Flash it via odin to be 100% safe

Considering how amazing Sale is, id probably say hang fire.. have you flashed the rom yet or just lookingbfornyhe kernel before you do ?

Anyone using this rom i highly recommend installing this apk of the android 4.2 keyboard..its much better in my opinion

As you can see from my grammar in the above post....my recomendation is justified

got scared to flash this because of the brick bug. @__@
Will just wait for sale to do his job and release Jelly Bean Neat Rom Lite/Full.

Mates, I just flashed this Leaked JB and it went quite well with Odin. But I must say it isnt as smooth as i expected. There are stutters while scrolling. Neatrom is much smoother. I say we all wait for sale to work his magic and then we can all flash it. :D Sale are you listening, old boy?

That's a SystemUI.apk mate?

I know mate, works fine though honestly, I wouldnt post it unless i tested it, im beginning to become a bit of a guinea fish lol

Unless that was the reason my Network went before, is that possible? doesnt sound it ?

Didn't work for me, "Application not installed"

Just remember, Neat comes with Siyah.
You are running that JB rom on either the stock kernel, or PhilZ, so this may have a bearing on your findings.

Won't know for sure until a compatible Siyah gets released, and I'm not sure when that will happen now that Gokhan has closed his thread again.

Calvo, have you rooted your phone again after flashing this? How to root? Can you please provide steps or a link? It will be greatly appreciated. I wanna go back to neatrom :(

Confused

I simply extracted it from the Android 4.2 Apps Mod. Maybe because the Jelly Bean Mod had no Android Keyboard to install over? I dont know. Sorry about that guys. I hope the fact that Im fairly amature compared to the likes of Hawker and Ironass isnt becoming too aparrent :p

Im more a passer on of information rather than techy

Second time round I Flashed and Rooted in one procedure

But previously the steps I took to flash back to a Nandroid back up of Neat was the following

Download this
http://www.mediafire.com/?p5r503u1run77w2

Reboot Phone into Stock Recovery Volume Up- Home - and Power

Do not wipe ANYTHING!"!!!""!"!"!""!"

Flash PhilZ kernel

Honestly - I cannot remember exatly which option it was to select the Kernel as I was on stock for literally seconds but it will show up if its available (I think it was either in Flash Update Install via SD or something like that) But as I say the PHilZ will appear when you select the right option.

I apologise for the vaguness of this part but Im not willing to go back to stock to find out sorry mate. If you select an option you can always go "back" as you have to confirm if you want to flash something. If you see the choice to select ADB then it is one of the other selections. (Hope that makes sense)

Once the kernel is flashed reboot

Download Root Checker From the Market just to confirm

Check About Phone, in Kernal Version I have

3.0.31-462349 seinfra @ SEP-111 #3 SMP PREEMPT TUE NOV 6 02:42:23 kst 2012

If you have that then reboot into recovery and restore your back up,.

I MUST REITERATE THAT I AM IN NO WAY THE MASTER OF ROOTING
This is just what I have learnt and read myself.

I do believe that flashing the Kernel via Odin will be a lot safer but those were my steps

Im kind of embarrssed I have to do this but if something happens to your phone I am in no way responsible

Im more than happy for someone to step in here and correct me if anything is not correct, but this worked for me :p

Oh the agony of choice, a spare Friday night (Mrs. dyno is off out and I have to look after my kids) a newer version of NeatRom from the best ROM chef (to call him a "cooker" would be insulting) and now a on official version of JB.

What the hell, this is what Nandroid back ups are for. :) I'll do both !

Calvo, how did you put Philz kernel on your sd card? I see no option in this JB leak for enabling usb mass storage.. how to do it????

Hey Calvo, what does the bootscreen looks like? The same as the stock GB/ICS have or the same as the S3 Mods for Neat?
