Help Jelly Bean update - Dummies Guide

The list in post #2 covers all JB releases, both branded and un-branded, as they are released.

The first, "variant", JB release, post #36, is in fact, carrier branded.

See also, #1.8 and #3.6.

Hey iron,

Doesn't look like my telco provider has any plans to develop JB, the Carrier is Telstra, and it uses specific towers...

Will any T (e.g. GT-i9100T) variation work on my phone, using the right towers, or do some T variations use various towers?

Cheers mate,

K

Yes, it will work. However, to-date, there has only been one T variant release, Israel (Pelephone), i9100TPCLLS4.

You could always root your phone after flashing a stock, unbranded, JB firmware for the GT-i9100 and then flash just the T modem and RIL for JB, JJLS2 currently, to it, as per the Modems - Dummies Guide.

excellent mate, you're a legend, stoked I can do this, been looking forward to JB for ages

Further to this, followed irons suggestion and works a treat =)

Hi, that's a wonderfull forum, congratulations ! and one question :
French user of GT I9100, with a French carrier, (like a lot of users) I have flashed the JB rom from Spain...with a CSC like FOP. JB for France looks like not to have yet been rolled out JB.
Using FOP, what's my risk ? when it's wonderfully working... How could I change the CSC code ?
Thanks for your answer.

No risks at all... however, flashing a CSC firmware other than your own will void your warranty and negate future updates via Kies. See, #1.7.

How could I change the CSC code ?

You can try this method, here, although I have not personally tried it... some users on ICS reported that it worked. Of course, you could just wait until the JB firmware is released for your original CSC code and flash it with Odin.

Hello and welcome to Android Forums apstar! :)

That is the same question my carrier, Vodafone, has been asking me repeatedly, recently. My view is that the S3 was not a big enough leap forward from the S2, as is often the case when a top phone is released... the next one cashes in on the name. I do, however, believe that the S4 may well be another game changer but that with JB on the s2, I can afford to wait.

Thanks ironass totally agree I am amazed how many people swap at every model release and thank you for the welcome I am very impressed with your effort that's the reason I joined :)

Hello, 2 quick questions :)

I'm in Belgium and when using the code provided my CSC gives me the code for Luxemburg, so what's the best thing to do concerning updates, or will Kies detect that automatically?

Also, ever since the phone got updated to 4.0.4. I have had numerous lag problems (not connection, just general problems of the image blocking at random intervals on everything). I've both been told to downgrade the firmware and upgrade to 4.1.2., is 4.1.2. known to solve this kind of problem? I also detected the brickbug, after I update to 4.1.2. I'm assuming it's safe to do a factory reset?

Thanks!

Stay with the CSC code you have or you will not be able to receive updates via Kies. See #1.6.

The problems you describe could be attributed to the update you had. See the link for Factory Reset in #1.2.

Brick bug does not affect stock, unrooted, kernel on Factory Reset.

Thanks for the help!

So basically, I can follow the steps described in this procedure (assuming 4.1.2. is available for Luxemburg, will need to check with Kies) to avoid problems and do a factory reset and clear internal and external memory first, then do the update?

Also, the guide says clean the memory but no details how to, is this the simple 'clear cache' function or do you need more for a vanilla install?

Thanks in advance :)

That is correct. Depending on your CSC code, see #1.1, JB has not been released for you, see post #2 to check your actual CSC code.

Also, the guide says clean the memory but no details how to, is this the simple 'clear cache' function or do you need more for a vanilla install?

The link I referred you to in #1.2, "Firmware update problems... what you can do!", goes into great detail on how to wipe phone, (Factory Reset), plus internal and external memory. No cache clear function is needed.

ironass

What does this tell you from these figures taken from Kies

PDA:LP4 / PHONE:LP3/CSC:LP2 (TEL)

Thanks

Not a lot to be honest apstar.

The phone is on ICS. Looks like Australian, "T", variant on Telstra.

See #1.1 on how to get more info.

Hey!

I've been having problems with upgrading from 4.0.4 to 4.1.2.
These are the infos:

PDA: I9100XWLPW
Phone: I9100XXLQ6
CSC: I9100XEFLP5

According to the list, the update should be avaible right?
But neither Kies nor an update over the phone menu wants to work. =(

Hello and welcome to Android Forums Idun! :)

I see from your CSC code that you have the i9100 on XEF.

As per post #2, the CSC code XEF is only, currently, showing availability for the, "G", variant, I9100G. See #2.1 and #2.2.

This one seems to be missing from the list. I received the OTA a week or two ago..

One thing I am looking to do is Root the phone, but GS2s seem to be more difficult to root than the Nexus devices on a Mac. Any up to date tips would be welcomed :)
