Help Jelly Bean update & now no photographs

Hello all - Yes, should have made a back up, however, was on the phone with the T-Mobile tech support as my phone kept freezing and going black too often. She said take out the SD card and she tried something which did not work. I left the SD card out and contacted tech support who said I should D/L Jelly Bean via Kies online. She said follow the links she was sending via email. I started to follow the links and at the same time take care of my grand kids so not fully focused. I updated to Jelly Bean and then knew I should have backed up my photos. Remember, the SD card was not in at the time of the update.

I put the SD card back in and voila .... no photos (over 1k) and cannot take any photos.
I go into storage and see the total space on the phone is 11.26 GB. There is 6.71 GB pictures, videos, however, when I go to the Gallery I only receive the following message: Not enough space. Delete unnecessary items, such as downloaded software, pictures, videos and documents.

I still have all my music which was either on the phone or on the SD card and all ringtones are correct. The SD card is showing 7.40 GB of total space and 7.12 GB of available space. I know I had photographs on the SD card probably as well as the phone.

The T-Mobile tech lady called me back at 10:30 PM when she said she would call back and check on my DL at 6:00 PM. Told her my household was sleeping and she apologized. Told her what happened and said she was saddened because something like this happened to her, etc. Anyway, she said I should have backed up the photos, etc. and I should try a reset of the phone after I uncheck Back Up My Data and Automatic Restore.

I am sure others have had this problem. Please offer me some soothing words of saving grace that all is not lost. Should I do a hard reset or not? I would have to back up my music that is on the phone - correct? I would rather not do a reset if I do not have to. Please, oh wise ones, direct me with your magic tech support. Thanks in advance.

Hi Jeff :wavey:

Some things to try. Can you plug your phone to your computer and use windows explorer to see and copy the files? Try going to settings, about phone, scroll down and tap the one that says build number, I think, 7 times. Then look in settings for developer options and check the box for usb debugging.

Try settings, applications, find the gallery app, tap it and select clear cache.

Thanks for all the great tips. I tried several and nothing worked. I have not tried plugging in the USB yet as I am away from my computer. Will try that as soon as I can. I did manage to find the photos under Files and will attempt to copy them once I get to my computer.
