Root Jellybean battery overheating help

Ok I just got jellybean on my gf phone and she I'd tethering to her laptop like she has done on ics and its never overheated before on ics and now with jellybean the temp has gone up to 142degrees

My battery overheats if I am on 3g and have less than five bars of signal. It rarely gets notably warm if I have a solid wi-fi connection. But, a weak 3g signal really heats things up.

How strong a 3g signal did you have when the phone got overheated?

anyone else have any insights as to why the battery is draining fasyer then it was on ics my gf phone used to get great battery and now it sucks

Had the same issue with 2 phones (1 rooted, 1 not). I tried messing with a bunch of settings with no luck. What finally helped was to fully charge the phone for a few hours, then pull the battery for 10-15 minutes. The estimated battery life on my phone went from ~8 hours to 20+.

My guess is that if you ran the update without a full battery it somehow resets what it thinks is a full charge to the battery % at time of update.
