Like JB.
got it 5 days now, and quite happyl
feels a bit smoother, richer, more complete.

some quirks I'd like to know about:

1. When I put it in shirtpocket it immediately goes "plik", and lockscreen kicks in. How does it sense that ? couldnt obtain same effect by putting it in jacketpocket or bag.. Somehow the S3 seems to sense: oops, going into shirtpocket, let me lock screen.... Which setting is that?

2. when closing phone-app via exit-button, sometimes (most times?), it takes about 1-2 sec before the icons appear on the home-screen... What causes this?
Too long contact list (1200+), log-lists too long? or too many icons on screen?
Anything I can do to fix this ?

3. I got loads of free apps installed, and some that seem to pop notifications, notably tell me I win an iPad every other day.. how to find which app, how to get rid .. ?

Just minor niggles. Overall Quite happy with my GS3 droid.

After reading this entire thread I don't think I want JB. Can a person opt not to do the update? Will NOT doing the update cause problems with future updates?

Pretty much, yes.Try it out for yourself.Run your finger along the edge of the phone & see if it zooms. That's what mine does w/the stock browser & PHANDROID app.

If I scroll directly in the middle of the screen,it doesn't zoom, but,if I scroll anywhere near the edge of the screen, the screen image zooms.

My apologies for quoting myself here, but, just wanted to update this strange ZOOM ING issue. Tried a Factory Data Reset & this issue persists. I'll definitely be reporting this bug to SAMSUNG/SPRINT.
Otherwise, the JB update has been flawless.

The latest JB update seems to have borked DLNA File Sharing on my phone, and a check on XDA seems to indicate a lot of people share my pain. Basically, what's happened is that I can no longer turn on File Sharing (Settings, More Settings, Nearby Devices)...the screen is completely disabled (grayed out...File Sharing and all other options disabled). This means I can't stream photos and video to my TV...not a big deal, but it is one of the cooler phone features and I'd like it back. A number of users on XDA have submitted workarounds including:

1. Tapping the disabled checkbox 10-20 times until it comes back on (according to this user, the problem is that the phone is enumerating through all the video, music and other files on the phone and it takes a long time...this smacks of BS and doesn't work for me in any case)

2. Going into Application Manager, selecting the All Tab, then scrolling down to Nearby Devices and clearing cache. This sounded promising to me, until I tried it and discovered that there is no Nearby Devices entry (or anything similar) in my apps list.

3. Unmounting the SD card and trying again (this is related to the story in #1, which supposedly "frees" the phone from enumerating through all the files). Didn't work.

4. Toggling WiFi on and off (also changing the sleep policy) to somehow "push" the DLNA into working. No joy.

My thought is that this is an old-fashioned garden-variety bug that needs to be corrected by an update. Until then, if anyone has a workaround they've discovered, I'm all ears.

UPDATE: I checked DLNA File Sharing under ICS and it's obvious that changes were made in JB...for example, the enable file sharing control has been changed from a slider to a checkbox. I wonder if there's a way to grab the old DLNA/file sharing APK from ICS and reinstall over JB...

The only thing I haven't figured out yet is ZOOM control. The web pages, etc.. seem extremely sensitive & it's a PIA. When I scroll up or down, the pages zoom to a ridiculous level. I've got the zoom level set on normal, but, the screen just seems way too sensitive.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

THX!
Edit:

Apparently, this is actually a feature, whether it's SAMSUNG or the O/S, I don't know. Anyway, running your thumb/finger up & down either edge of the screen zooms the screen in & out.
I hope there's some adjustment/checkbox to kill this, it's annoying, as my thumb naturally drags along the edge of the screen when I'm scrolling.

Again, any suggestions are welcome..

THX!

x2!

My phone just started doing that too. I updated a few days ago with the T-Mobile update. Not really a huge deal, but it does get annoying from time to time. I hope Samsung release a fix for this.

I can't reproduce this.

Hi,
i want to ask, is that the SGS3 latest firmware for jelly bean : I9300XXDLJ1,
Screenshot_2012-11-15-21-59-24.png
is that normal the loading icons and notifications icons become smaller than ICS one?

and also is that normal if the dropbox have 2 different version on my hh?
1 is latest version, and the other one is v 1.0, can i remove the v 1.0?

I have it rooted since Verizon doesn't have it officially yet.
They only two things I didn't like about JB:

You can't scroll/rotate the homescreens all the way around like in ICS. It's now back and fourth like IOS.

Doesn't automatically sync facebook pics with contacts...yeah, I thought that was actually kind of cool.

Other than that, it's running great.

T-Mobile user in Texas, got my update on Saturday 11/17. Loving the smoothness sofar, but completely annoyed that the stock browser lost all of my bookmarks. I have tried for 2 days to get my Samsung bookmarks to sync andkeep getting a message that sync is having problems and can't sync right now. Also, my Swype beta apparently can't automatically space words when typing in a webpage window like I'mdoingnow. It works like normal with text messages, though. I see no major difference in battery life, but I don't use a lot of voice command features and I run juice defender.

I have a JB rom on my ATT s3 and I am not really that impressed. ICS was just the same. I like the photoshere camera. Kinda cool. Also the 4.2 keyboard is really nice.

2 quick JB questions. I updated my wifes S3, via Kies (It told me firmwear was not up to date, so just upgraded with that) and since then she's had a couple of minor bugs. So, the questions:

1. It's mentioned above that a factory reset can help after an update. When factory resetting, I take it this will wipe all data, do I just then run a restore from the backup I created in Kies? If so what about apps, as for some reason Kies didn't like trying to back them up?

2. One of the biggest annoyances since JB upgrade is that she charges her phone in the bedroom at night, now when the phone is fully charged it sounds a notification, and not just once. This is very annoying and has woken me up a few times. It never happened before JB and I cannot find an option to diable it. Any advice.

3. How do you get expandable notifications. I haven't seen any difference in the way notifications are displayed. The only difference in the notification area seems to be the block setting and the clock.

Got some questions about how google now works too, but I'll research that a bit as I'm sure there are guides around.

Ta.

I'd love to know this too tbh.

I upgraded firmware on my Galaxy S3 to JellyBean 4.1.1 , using Kies on PC. The upgrade was trouble free. However, within a day, I found (a) I didn't like the browser and its zooming, (b) SkyGo didn't work, and (c) my old version of CoPilot 8 didn't run. Have since reflashed ICS 4.0.4, via Odin, and all working again. So, in short, the Galaxy S3 upgrade has more cons than pros IMHO, and I wouldn't recommend.

My homescreen scroll all the way around on JB. I'm on Sprint.

Any future updates will be JB...so if you don't want JB you will never be updating your phone again

Well that settles that then I guess. I would like to see how it goes for others and know what to expect before I jump in.

Can a person hold off on updating for a time?

Everything about JB is the same as ICS just better lol...just update

With all of the "it never did X before JB" where X can be any of the issues noted in this thread how can you possibly make a blanket statement like that? There are a number of significant problems described here.

As for her never updating again I'd like to think that future JB updates will address the issues that effect the greatest number of users.

This thread is fragmented and has lost it's original focus which was to document JB likes and dislikes. Perhaps a sticky that simply lists the goods and bads ....

How can I make that blanket statement? Because its the truth...my S3 has never been better than when I started running ROMs based on the leaked Verizon JB...
