JI6 Released for Vibrant

Just read where Samsung released JI6 for the Vibrant (us). There is hope I guess. Saw it on facebook samsung service wall.

I had a good morning laugh. Read the Vibrant GPS sticky, towards the bottom, someone posted that they have a cousin who knows someone elses cousin who knows someones uncle who works at Samsung as a janitor. This person was sitting ont he throne and overheard Samsung exec say Froyo will come in out years not months. Where do people get these stories from, worth the read. LMAO.

I guess it's pretty serious.

I also have a cousin, go on...

lol stories like that make me wonder if us glxyS owners will ever get gingerbread
Few tweeted about this to galaxySsupport and Leah replied that they do not have any info on gingerbread at the moment. Samsung should at least confirm whether they will carry the S line thru 3.x releases.

It wouldn't be smart for a company to confirm anything for software/firmware that hasn't even been announced, released, or even finished.

I read, somewhere on this forum, that when AT&T or any other carrier makes a deal with a phone manufacturer they stipulate in the contract how many updates the manufacturer guarantees they will deliver. If this is the case my guess would be they didn't guarantee more updates past froyo. If it is in their contract why wouldn't they say yes it will come sometime next year? That would leave a huge window...big enough for Samsung. If it's not in the contract then of course they would continue radio silence as flat out saying no we will not bring gingerbread would definitely turn away some customers.

I think it would also be smart for them to announce a plan of record for future software releases. I work in the high tech sector as a developer. Most of the time, customers demand to know our plan of record for future software and hardware releases, otherwise no committment.

We are also customers. Sure our $$$ commitments are smaller but we are customers regardless, and this is a consumer product afterall. These days, with the web and forums, many people are quite educated about the products they buy. Knowing the future supported releases, especially since Samsung does not own Android, might sway quite a few fence sitters.
