Jobs Rips Android RIM everything not IOS

Mr Jobs is funny, he wants to think for everyone. A lot of the electronic book readers are around 7" so that show their been a place for that size even before the ipad.

Like I said a few post up..

If galaxy tab does *remotely* well..

Expect an "Ipad Tab Nano!" in a store near you really fast.

Although I'm worried about the galaxy tab.. i forsee carrier based problems..but, I don't think of a tab as the size of a small monitor..

I think of a tab.. as well the galaxy tab..

Not quite. Apple provides support for their products.

Not quite. The latest iOS 4 won't be able to run on the first iPhone (that is still circulating). When iOS 4 was updated onto the predecessor models, it seemed that it didn't play very well with the iPhone 3. Though, I believe Apple fixed some (not all) of the issues with iOS 4.1. I believe I read that Apple did say that the next iOS model will not (fully?) work on iPhone 3G. Wouldn't you call this fragmentation as well?

When the hardware is outdated, you can't update it to the newest and latest OS that requires a faster processor, graphic card etc. That's just how technology works.

Steve Jobs said:
"It's meaningless unless your tablet also includes sandpaper, so that the user can sand down their fingers to around one quarter of their present size" said Jobs.

Jobs rules out 7-inch iPad - Rethink Wireless

Apparently, our fingers are too big to use an iPhone screen. I mean, it is SMALLER than a 7" screen, so I guess Jobs has started shipping sandpaper with the iPhone now.

Seriously, it makes him seem afraid and desperate. It makes it look like Apple knows these coming Tablets are better than the iPad.

you know.. if I could ask jobs one question right now..

It would be what "use" does the ipad have in the first place..

Oh right.. its magical..

It *CAN* run crysis.

Actually, what I want to ask them is why they called this media event 'back to the mac'?

Is it because they know their mobile business is going down the crapper so they need to find something to overprice to keep investors from dumping stock?

Investors are a hoot. they want more profit.... but Apple cannot keep this pace up forever and when they don't do 80% MORE profit than the last quarter their stock, which is over-hyped as it is will crash.

The irony here is..... those new laptops they are peddling, they look like the ultra thin Sony Vaio laptops of past years.
If 'thin' was the goal Sony already beat them.. but I am sure the fanboys will say 'first!'

It's not second-rate, but it's also no longer the best. There's better hardware available and iOS doesn't seem so slick anymore; the only clear advantage are the apps and that gap is narrowing daily.

The app count is becoming a moot point really. Who cares if one phone has a million and the other only 500,000. You're never gonna even scroll past 1/10 of the total in your life. What matters is the quality and utility of the apps that are already there.

Some of the comments are pure gold from the article where Android fires back!! ;)

Top Android champions fire back at Steve Jobs - CNN.com

they fire back by proving him right.... Good Job Android

"We think Android is very fragmented and becoming more fragmented by the day, and as you know, Apple strives for the integrated model so that the user isn't forced to be the systems integrator," said Jobs.(You can listen to the entire conference call here.)
But data shows Android fragmentation, caused by the different versions of the Android operating system on devices, is on the decline.

lol so Steve Jobs is right? That Android is fragmented? I love the argument that droid fans say "but he said 100, there are only 3" like that disproves him. It doesn't, it proves him right by admitting you have 3 (which makes it fragmented)

you guys have such a hardon over Jobs (like FSU fans had a hardon over hoping Tebow did bad)

it's an inferiority complex 100%. You're so resentful you got 2nd most popular phone, that you take any stab you can at Jobs. After all, if you can't raise up to his level of success, tear him down your your level.

Well the thing is, Jobs exaggerate it to the point that it seems that the Android's fragmentation will bring its collapse. It's SOOOOOOOOO BAD that everyone should go to iOS because iOS has NO fragmentation. So what's wrong with correcting Jobs and making it clear the state of the fragmentation of Android?

What Jobs forgot to say is that APPLE is becoming fragmented with every new gen of the iPhone and iOS. Older model iPhone (first gen) won't be able to use the newest iOS (4th gen). There were issues with the iPhone 3G playing nice with iOS 4 when it was released. Even with the patch, 4.0.1, there are still some issues due to hardware limitations of the phone.

I think fragmentation is something that all phone companies must deal with when they release new OS for the phones and want to update 'all' the phones to that OS. Well not all phones CAN be updated. If they do, some features have to be omitted.

it's an inferiority complex 100%. You're so resentful you got 2nd most popular phone, that you take any stab you can at Jobs. After all, if you can't raise up to his level of success, tear him down your your level.

So defending something you believe in is wrong and that you have an inferiority complex? I don't give a shit what's the most popular phone, what phone has the highest sales. I like my phone, you like yours, end of story. I hate when people twist the truth for their own propaganda profit. So twisting the facts like that is OK in your book?

it's just hilarious to watch the superphans on here think that showing it's not 100, it's only 3, negates the fact that he's right, android is fragmented.

I lol at the sense of accomplishment that droid phans walk away with after proving the man's point correct.

it's still fragmented and arguing the point of "but he said 100..." doesn't mean you won the argument like so many people on here think. No wonder Android is #2. Ya'll are stopping the run, but giving up the 70 touchdown pass.... congrats, they still just got 6 points on you.. The defense never gives each other a high five and say "yeah, but they rushed for -2 yards..."

Hey guy, android comes in many flavors. Keypads, screen size, price, form factor....

It's about choice. Yeah I'm sure there is a tad of fragmentation. When you have so many devices there is bound to be. We're not talking about 4 generations of the same phone getting upgraded.

It's been said that programmers don't have problems with this so called awful fragmentation. Give it a rest chief.

I'm by no means an Android fanboy. I have a HTC Hero, which I think is fantastic, even if it has been bettered by other, more recent handsets like the Desire. I also recognise that the various versions of the iPhone have all been fantastic gadgets.

But Steve Jobs is an utter tool.

I'm am sorry that your parents never told you that they loved you. If it helps, Jesus loves you.

So what make you any different? This is the LOUNGE and an Android forum. Just because you defend or like your devise, doesn't mean your a fanboy. If Mr Jobs can open his mouth and take shots at his competitors, what's wrong with the folks here speaking their mind? Every time someone take a shot at the iphone it's like no one is suppose to do that, well the writing is on the wall, that phone is played out, deal with it.

I agree. I just recently went back to my old iPod Touch 1st gen and dusted it off, and found that almost all the apps in the itunes app store would not work on the iOS version I had (which I think was 2). So I decided to shell out the $5 for the new OS 4.0 (yes thats right, you have to pay to get the OS upgrades >_<) and found that its not compatible with my 1st gen. At that point, I just put it up on craigslist and made a nice profit to put towards awesome apps for my droid x. :)

Swap Jobs' choice of the phrase "suffers from fragmentation" with "gives you options based upon your needs/desires" and you're good to go.

Since when is having a choice such a bad thing?

when one app works on EVERY iPhone vs apps on Droid have issues with it not working on one platform. How many times have you read about an app that says.

works great - Droid Incredible

followed by a

force closes all the time - Moto Cliq

Iphone doesn't have that issue and that's when it's a problem

if I was a blind fanboy, I would have an I4.... I got what was best for me that was available to me. Verizon in my area is far superior coverage to that of AT&T, coverage was more important than the device if the device doesn't work because of the carrier.

The poor coverage is an area thing where I live more than anything else. Not all AT&T coverage are equal.... I'm just in a bad AT&T area

plus, the only reason people on here "defend" their device is just because it's their device. "it's #1 because I have it" is not a good argument.

I have a Droid, and defend it because verizon has a better network in my area.... that's a real reason why I go with Droid over Iphone. If Iphone ever comes to Verizon, or AT&T franchise in my area gets their crap together, I'll look into the iphone.

But I'm also not so misguided by blind loyalty because I have a droid to see that iphone and jobs has a valid point. instead of being open to legitamate criticisms, it seems most on here would rather fall back to the "it's number 1 because it's what I have" argument.

yeah, that shows steve jobs who CONTINUES to own the market

that's like trying to play a Wii's games on a gamecube.

I'm arguing droid is like trying to play an Xbox game on a PS3.

different generations of one platform /= multiple platforms

While the "It's #1 because I have it" argument is invalid, the "I am not an iPhone fanboy because I don't have one" is equally specious.

Irony or hypocrisy? Let's have a poll.

One thing that bothers me is having to wait for your phone maker to compile the next version of Android for you.

I was a bit surprised to hear that people have to wait for their phone maker to put a froyo OTA together for them. I would have thought it would be easier for the end-user to upgrade to Froyo.

I have an Evo with Froyo...so in the short therm, this is not a problem for me. But long term, what happens when my Evo is old news, and HTC has moved on? Will I be able to run Android 3.0?

I am pretty sure I'll get the next version of Android...but the one after that, or the one after that one is of some concern to me.

I guess it will persuade me to upgrade to a new phone every 2 years (which isn't necessarily a bad thing)...but one day, when I have a quad core 3 GHz processor, and 8 gigs of RAM...why would I need to upgrade that ever again? At some point, the hardware is going to take more than 2 years to become obsolete...I just hope the manufacturers make a more seamless way to upgrade to newer versions of Android.

Android is not supposed to be a singular unified user experience.

Steve Jobs get's it. He just doesn't want anybody else to, which is why he's ringing the "fragmentation" bell. It's equivalent to yelling "Al-Qaeda" every time you walk past a Mosque. Inflammatory rhetoric, no matter how wrong and offensive, still, unfortunately, works.
