Jobs Rips Android RIM everything not IOS

if I was a blind fanboy, I would have an I4.... I got what was best for me that was available to me. Verizon in my area is far superior coverage to that of AT&T, coverage was more important than the device if the device doesn't work because of the carrier.

The poor coverage is an area thing where I live more than anything else. Not all AT&T coverage are equal.... I'm just in a bad AT&T area

plus, the only reason people on here "defend" their device is just because it's their device. "it's #1 because I have it" is not a good argument.

I have a Droid, and defend it because verizon has a better network in my area.... that's a real reason why I go with Droid over Iphone. If Iphone ever comes to Verizon, or AT&T franchise in my area gets their crap together, I'll look into the iphone.

But I'm also not so misguided by blind loyalty because I have a droid to see that iphone and jobs has a valid point. instead of being open to legitamate criticisms, it seems most on here would rather fall back to the "it's number 1 because it's what I have" argument.

yeah, that shows steve jobs who CONTINUES to own the market

Seems like cupcake(or is it donut??) over here is misguided by Apple's marketing instead :D

Lol, the one problem in your assertion is you assume, everyone with an android phone inherently could not get an iphone 4.

I could pay for an iphone 4 in cash right now if I wanted to and since I'm on my parents at&t account, hell my parents would probably approve of me getting an iphone 4 more than any android based phone. Why? they have iphone 4's themselves and know nothing about phone.s -.-

What would I drop 500$ on? Samsung Captivate no questions asked.

Your assertion android fans all equate to iphone jealous people who couldn't get on at&t discounts everyone who actually researches their purchase and *wants* something based on their needs/wants.

So... quit insulting everyone out there who legt prefers our green friend.

It would be like me saying that everyone with an iphone is like my mom... someone who walked in with no idea what they wanted, looked at other phones for 4 seconds, and walked out with an iphone knowing nothing about anything they were doing to begin with.. You know.. isheep.

I do believe at least *some* people out there at least gave other phones a fair chance before hopping on the iphone side of things :/

I know some people got the iPhone 4 simply because they are curious since they've heard their friends/colleagues talk about it and want to see for themselves.

My best friend had an android phone, LG Eve, and she hated it. She didn't care much for customization or monitoring her poor battery life to see what apps might be causing it. I or her bf would be the one that tweaked her phone for her. In the end, I told her that Android might not be the right OS for her and if she can, she should get the iPhone. She is now quite happy with her iPhone 4 :)

My sister recently purchased an LG Ally. She has had it for a few months now and loves it. She is not tech savvy. All she does on the computer is browse the Internet, email, and play the Sims 3. I was impressed that she was able to pick up the phone and get right to using it. She even noticed when an app she had downloaded was eating her battery, all on her own.

Last time I saw her she said that she still loves it. She can now send pictures of her new baby to her Grandmother's email.

Point is that while Android isn't for everyone, I think that given a chance anyone can use it without a hitch. Even if they don't want to customize or tweak their phone. All I did for her was disable auto-brightness.

I have a friend like that. He looks at my choices and thinks "hey, this guy is pretty tech-savvy, I should buy what he buys." I always end up getting the "it won't do this" or "how do you configure that" calls, usually during dinner or Sunday afternoon in the middle of a football game. He's got Macs now and while I still get the calls, I can honestly say "sorry, I don't know enough about OSX to help you out."

He's currently in the market for his first smartphone ... I am hoping he decides to get the iPhone4.

Android is not supposed to be a singular unified user experience.

Steve Jobs get's it. He just doesn't want anybody else to, which is why he's ringing the "fragmentation" bell. It's equivalent to yelling "Al-Qaeda" every time you walk past a Mosque. Inflammatory rhetoric, no matter how wrong and offensive, still, unfortunately, works.

EXACTLY.... let's not forget, he's in it to make sure HE'S successful. Propaganda works.... He's dang sure manipulating the truth, but simply saying "you're wrong, it's not 100 platforms, it's just 3" just has people distracted from the real issue at hand, that their IS fragmentation.

Now, a better approach is to not focus in on what the actual number is but explain WHY that's better. People are too worried about stopping the run, but their not accounting for the pass.

Last year, I would have never considered myself tech savy. Computer terminologies confound me. I have never had a smartphone before. All of my pones for the past 6 years were dumb phones. The only reason I got into phones was because I had to research for my 'new phone' when my contract was up. Read reviews for my phone and then started looking at other phones and was amazed the looks and functionality of the phones. One thing led to the other and here I am now...a moderator on one of the most popular Android forums. I'm also the geekiest chick in my group. Go figure, lol.

:) congrats

The problem is that "fragmentation" said like it's a negative quality, hindrance or shortcoming of the platform.

If you sat down in a restaurant and the waiter handed you a menu and you saw 8 appetizers, 14 entr

If you looked at it percentage wise, there is more "fragmentation" in iOS devices than Android devices.

All OS have fragmentation, iphone included to. Once again some well make the iphone to be above all when in reality its lacking in a few areas, other OS can do the same task better but as long as apple does it, its consider better than the rest.

that's the problem with fragmentation. Its not like a menu where Devour gets a set of apps specifically to the Devour, while the Incredible gets their own, while the D2 gets their own. What you get is a droid dev that tries to make a "Droid" app and he gets...

Hold on a minute. There seems to be an assumption in your argument that this is a universal developer problem and occurs regularly. I am not suggesting that it is not a problem at all, but many developers have stepped up and said it's a non-issue. FWIW, I've yet to meet an app from the market that didn't run on my unrooted Nexus, or felt the need to root, just to get it to do something i wanted. Of course a singular experience is just that, but i'm liking it.

add to it the natural issues with having a different generation of product (ie - the Droid 1 versus D2 or the Iphone 1 vs I4) and you don't have 'menu choice' you have fragmentation problems

I do believe you have both.

If it works on one 4th generation iphone, it works on them all (unless somethign is wrong with your phone)

however, the same 'generation' of droid phones don't always play nice together. that's why you have in the comment sections of droid market people putting their phone in the comment section when they say it either works great or doesn't work....

the generational thing works on Droid too.... for example, I had "more icons" (the paid version) on my D1 and now on my D2. There are more options available to me with the same app on the d2. So I could argue that it's just it's not upward compatible.

How was my post any worse than the one to which I responded?

Or can I just not see others' infractions?

Sorry that's just not true. Even Apples own developers fail. iMovie for iPhone reportedly won't run on the 3GS, only the one generation back. A simple Google search reveals many examples of apps that have difficulties on older phones.

if it's a problem then it's the problem of progress just like you can't get analog cable TV or leaded gas anymore, even though there are plenty of analog televisions still working and cars with carburetors still on the road.

Then why can't my first gen iPod Touch (which should be able to run anything the first gen iPhone can) not run iOS 4 or any apps that require iOS 4?

And let's not forget all the apps I can "install" but run horribly on my first gen iPod Touch.

One word debunks your "it works on all of them"

Facetime.

 clearly doens't work on anything besides 4th generation iphone.
