Root juice defender or set cpu

ducky1979

Im using juice defender at the mo to set the cpu speeds on my phone, has anyone any experience with this or is setcpu better??

My limits are, min 128, max idle 768, max 1113. Will these limits give me the best results?

if i was to get setcpu if it is better, i would uninstall juice defender as its redundant at the minute because gingerbread is not being supported yet (wifi location is all that works) can anyone suggest a good location based app that will enable wifi when i get home??

I have never really tried juice defender, but set cpu is definitely supposed to be the best.

For location based tasks, cant go wrong with tasker :)

i might get set cpu and give it a try and im gonna have to get the trial for tasker. SUroot, what battery results do you get with Eviollet HAVS AXI CFS? i set my cpu limits when my battery was at 90% after pretty moderate usage it now at 50% so about 15 hours. does that sound about right with that kernel?

It all depends on how you define "moderate use". Doesn't sound bad though - linear extrapolation would give you 37-38 hours, but it should drop at a much lower rate overnight.

Mine has gone from 90-41 over 25.5 hours, but that includes an overnight when it dropped 2-3% in total, and most of the rest of the time doing not much - nandroid, titanium, bit of fiddling/rebooting, little light browing, couple of texts and a game of worms was most of the actual usage. Even I would call this "light" rather than "moderate".

But having gone from GV 1.1 to 1.4 in the space of a week, flashing every version and update or patch inbetween, some of them more than once, plus setting up after each update, I can't say I've any idea what "normal" GV battery life is right now, 'cos today feels like the first day in ~a week when it's been fairly stable!

its a very steep learning curve. If you google tasker for android, there is a wiki on it.

Yeah, I've had a look at that and want to set mobile data and WiFi but what's this apn Droid? Can't find it on the market.

You don't need to disable via apn Droid. There are options to turn these on and off

Oh right, only it says apndroid. Must be installed so it can do periodic mobile data on/off, I want to set it to have mobile data off if the phone is locked and on when unlocked but turn it on every 15 mins like what juice defender used to do. And set the WiFi to come on automatically when I'm at home.

In tasks > net > mobile data > off. I have just created that task and tested it.

You only need APN droid, if you're messing with APN's. Its not the same as turning network on or off.

I've changed a couple of the profiles on the wiki for myself, this and this Possibly not the best way of doing it but works in a fashion, wifi switching off sometimes doesnt work, but does maybe 80% of the time. If you want to use them, you need to edit a couple of things.

Data check is every 30 minutes, change to that to 15 if that is what you want and do as it says on the wiki wifi profile. Its my network name, not MBJC, I have a l33t neighbour so its a message to him.

I've never exported tasks, so let me know if they work

So have you got it set so that when you lock the phone data is off and unlock its on? That's what I want but I want it to enable it periodically so my emails will sync.

I just tested a screen off / data off and that worked fine.

So what you're actually asking for is a second profile. I'll look at that now.

cheers SUroot, can you tell me parameters you used to set screen off data off profile? And if you have any ideas about setting auto sync schedule. If this runs anything like juice defender did we can expect massive battery life increases.

If you download the profiles attached above, import them into tasker, then that should sort you. A couple of things need editing while in tasker, that is all.

If you do that then its the same as juice defender, with wifi at home

There arent really many parameters.

I just went event > Screen off > Priority normal > task > Net > data off.

Managed to set it for screen off data off and screen on data on, I've also set a schedule to allow data on every 15 minutes to sync emails and stuff but that's hard to test yet. I'm gonna send myself an email and see if it comes through.

Concern is does it turn data off afterwards?

Only way I can think to test is to manually turn off data. Connect to wifi. Change screen off from mobile data to wifi and same for schedule task.

In settings>about phone>battery use (click the graph) it has a line that shows if wifi is on or not

Edit> in the auto schedule, not sure how you manage it. Can it have an exit task of data off again?

Well the data on and off profiles both work a treat, just got to work on a auto schedule. I'll report back if I get it to work.

Also bear in mind that connecting to a 3G network uses a lot of power. The more frequent your update schedule, it could actually cause drain.

If as frequently as 15 minutes it turns on data, if turning on data and establishing a connection uses more power than 15 minutes worth of direct connection, you would be wasting battery.

I dont know what turning on and establishing a connection uses in power compared to minutes of a constant connection... You would have to test.

right i have managed to do it and i have tested it and it seems to work well, the mobile data is set to connect every 30 minutes (thanks for the recommendation SUroot) which it does and stays connected for about 1 minute then it disconnects again,
my profiles are:
1, event - screen on, task mobile data on
2, event - screen off, task mobile data off
3, first context - time (ive set from 05.30 to 2359 repeat every 30 minutes) task - mobile data set to on.

all seems to work well!!!

just tried the wifi method you said to test but it didnt work, but i only changed the schedule not all three, so im thinking by having a screen off data off setting it must resort to that after, but im gonna set it all up for wifi and test again, hopefully when all the settings are wifi based the wifi will turn off again. i will post as soon as i find out, might not be till 2moro though.
