Help Juice Defender problem with Droid Charge

So it looks like Juice Defender doesn't work for Charge. It seems to work fine in Revolution, Tbolt. Revolution would come close to Charge's battery life with Juice Defender I think.

I have had a couple times when in a low signal area I lost 3g and had to restart the phone to reestablish. FYI, I'm current not in a 4g area. We're getting 4g later this year.

Any thoughts?

Yeah, I had the same issue. I uninstalled juice defender and the issue does not happen.
 
Yep, having the same problem. I even paid for the app. I like the concept a lot but having to reboot the phone to fix the data issue, that's simply unacceptable.
 
Just found this but am wondering if my trouble is the same. When I am at home my phone now uses my home wifi network. However when I leave home and try to use the browser, I get the message "network not available. Please check your network and try again". It is only the browser that does not work. Texting and phone calls work fine. Turning off JD fixes the problem. Is this the same issue as everyone in this thread describes?
 
OK, thanks. Too bad as the app has really helped my battery. I tried it out and very quickly upgraded to plus I like it so much. For now I will leave it on, but just have to turn it off whenever I am out of wifi range and need to use the browser. Hopefully the app developer will have a fix soon.
 
I have since noticed that many times just turning off JD is not enough to re-enable access to the browser. I need to turn off JD and then restart the phone before I can use the browser. That is a big problem.

Has anyone heard if this problem with JD not working properly with the charge is being fixed?

Does anyone know of another App that does what JD can do when it works as intended?

I had this same issue when I tried out the Revolution. You had to restart the phone to get data back. I ended up uninstalling it. When I got the Charge I didn't bother installing JD for fear of the same thing happening. I just saw this thread and am glad I didn't reinstall.

I am not having any battery issues with the Charge anyway. I get a full day from the battery with moderate use. I turn off wifi and / or BT when I am not using them. That's the extent of my battery management. The battery life on the Revo was terrible compared to the Charge. I have not tried the TB.
 
Guys I've noticed the same things on my droid charge. I'm on my second one thinking that it was the phone itself causing my data problems because at firstmy phone worked perfectly thinking on 4g and only switching to 3g when in known bad signal area s. But I noticed the problem on my current phone as well. But after reading this and uninstalling jd last night I went to sleep with 4g and woke up with it. Right now I'm on 3g and that's because I'm in a bad service area in my house. So I think it is jd. I'd rather have crappy battery life then no data. Definitely not both.

Wifi problems - leave wifi turned off all the time unless you are using it. wifi can cut off all your other data connections when it is in use.

Battery app programs - don't install them on the Charge. Most if not all of them cause problems. Some Verizon stores have reportedly installed these for customers just to find that the data connection doesn't work. Check your phones. If you have one of these installed, uninstall and restart the phone.
 
Battery Issues - I pay close attention to what apps I install and what's running in the background on my phone. I almost always get a full day or more without charging on the included battery. On the odd busy day, I plug in the car charger on my way home from work. I leave everything turned on except wifi. No battery extender apps installed. I consider myself a moderate user. Phone, text, some internet, some apps, Angry Birds!

Don't know if this comparison helps anyone or not, but thought I'd share.
 
Great thread! I thought it was my phone or somehthing...I was restarting my phone like 3 to 4 times a day (at least), just to get my signal back. Now, I know it was the JD app. Love that app, but I love having a data connection alot better. Hopefully, they'll get the app working right for the Charge.
 
I've been trying to fix my Droid Charge battery issues since I got it. Generally get 8-10 hours from a 100% charge.

Now on my 2nd try with Juice Defender. 1st attempt saved battery, but never woke up 3g connection.

Installed the beta this time. Was doing the same thing. But I enabled "mobile data autofix" and it seems fine now, using the balanced profile. Seem to get about 13 hours of battery now with medium/low usage - not great, but better. "Display" is still my number 1 battery user, despite the lowest brightness setting and a 1 min screen timeout. I can't live with a 15 second timeout.

By the way, when the original battery icon shows a full blue battery, it may not be close to full. I use Battery Booster, mainly to show me the exact percentage of charge and the temperature of the phone.
 
Thanks NJtoTX. Keep us posted on whether it still works for you. On another site someone said they tried the beta and auto-fix and their Charge was still not reconnecting when it should. You are the first person I have seen say it worked for them. Maybe I'll try the beta and auto-fix myself and see if I get lucky.

On edit: The only beta version I could access is the one in the Market, 3.5.6beta which is the version that does not work with the Charge. (Which one are you using NJtoTX?) The Latedroid site shows two more recent betas and gives http://juicedefender.com/privatebeta as the site to go to to get them. However, even if you are logged into the Latedroid site, when you go to that url, you are told that access is denied and that you need to request permission to try the latest beta. I made the request but because applications have to be processed "manually", I will have to wait to see if the 3.5.8beta version works.
 
I have not tried the latest beta yet as I have not received permission to access it. But I did find a solution that I posted on the JD site:

I tried the latest version of Green Power because the new version notes in the Market stated that one of the fixes was: "Some issues with 3G not coming back". It works! It does not immediately return, but when I check again after a few minutes it is back on 3G. So I will run that program for now.

It does not have all the options that JD has so I really hope JD gets an update like Green Power did that fixes the issue. But until JD works on the Charge and I can go back to JD, it is a solution good enough for me.

edit: Thought I had a solution using Green Power but what was actually happening is this: I installed GreenPower and I was testing in range of WiFi. I turned off the WiFi and the phone does not start using 3G. A few minutes data is working again. Because I assumed WiFi was still off since I manually turned it off, I thought the phone was back using 3G data. Wrong. What is happening is when the display times out and then is re-awoken, WiFi is again enabled because I had Green Power managing WiFi automatically. It just looked like it was working because WiFi was back on. If I don't let Green Power turn on WiFi automatically, data does not come back.

So the same problem does exist in Green Power too. Frustrating!
 
I received the invite to try the latest beta. Installed it and enabled "mobile data autofix". Then I turned off WiFi and mobile data did not come back on. I toggled Airplane mode and still no connection.

I then discovered that if in addition to having JD "mobile data autofix" enabled I also turn on JD "mobile data" in the "Disable on WIFI" JD section and THEN toggle "Data network mode" in the Charge phone menu off, then back on, I get mobile data back.

Obviously we can not have to remember to toggle the phone's "Data Network Mode" off and then on each time so I guess this problem is not resolved with the latest beta. OR maybe it is and I am now so confused that I just can't figure it out.

@ NJtoTX: If you are still following this maybe you can check back in with news on whether it is working for you still?

on edit: I played with it some more and it definitely does not work on my Charge. But here is the thing. I browsed many more threads about the Charge not reconnecting to the Verizon network and it really seems to be a problem with the Charge. Yes JD is not working with the Charge, but I am not 100% sure it is the fault of JD.
 
For those users that "have no problem with battery" I'd like to know what you consider to be nominal battery life.

I'm getting about 10 hours like the OP, and it's hard to imagine that much variance between users. Are you guys using 4G? I've seen outrageous claims of 30+ hours on a single charge, and I am just going to have to call BS. That has to be with your phone just idling there, and possibly with networks turned off with no accounts syncing.

Keep in mind the 10 hrs is with extremely light usage, and with the screen set at the lowest setting or at 10% brightness.

The Droid Charge is an awesome phone, and 4G and SAMOLED+ are awesome--but that comes at the price of the battery.

I think people need to stop misleading potential buyers, because I walked into this thinking I could expect 20 hrs at least with light usage. It's not even close.

Please, no more battery usage quotes on 3G--or if you do, clearly specify that you are quoting 3G.

I honestly get about 3 hours of continuous data usage in 4G and then it goes into standby mode. If I talk on the phone, I can do about 3-4 hours of talk and an our of data browsing before it dies. It is pathetic. Have used Juice Defender on a few other phones without a problem. Looking forward to haing it on the Charge.

I'm back. I use JD at times, but would like to be able use it more often. I was using MoblieFix and it wouldn't reconnect to 3G, and Verizon actually had to swap out the sim card.
No mobilefix now. Generally reconnects to 3G if I switch from CDMA to LGE, then back. But I don't want to have to do that. May try tasker scripts to turn off and on the network.
 
My battery life SUCKS!!! on my Charge. I'm only getting 5 to 6 hours...and that's on standby, with a few emails during that time period. I left my Sprint EVO 4G becz there was no 4G service in my area and I was tired of paying for a service I wasn't getting. But, I really loved my that phone. I now regret getting this phone. The screen is beautiful and the phone is fast, but what's the point, if the battery doesn't last.
 
Same here, was having battery life issues so installed jd and having the same issues reported here on losing connectivity. I guess I'll uninstall jd and monitor this thread for a fix before using again.
