Just a few questions.

(Imagine the red parts being a highlight of what I'm talking about. I tend to be verbose. Sorry in advance.)

I'm really new to Android. Today is a week since I got my Atrix. I've been an iPhone and BlackBerry user. There are a few things that I don't know about android that are frustrating me. I'll say my frustration is just a lack of knowledge.

Picture me as a person who comes into your store wanting to return their phone.

Here's my background information: I am a songwriter. I do a lot of typing on my devices, whether it's a full song or just a few bars that are stuck in my head. Having a great feel to the keyboard is essential to me. I do not mind touchscreen keyboards because I've had iPhones for so long.

My thing is that I'm really used to auto correction. Is there anyway I can make my android phone automatically add the apostrophes and capitalize new lines as well as all I's when used as a noun? The convenience of typing "dont" and getting "don't" or typing i and getting I is really important to me. It makes the process run a bit smoother because if I'm focused solely on the typing I may forget the actual lyric I'm writing in. Both my iPhone and BlackBerry do it.

Another thing is the editing. Let's say that I notice a typo in previous line or I wanted to add more words to a bar and I want to correct it, how would I get back up to that spot? On my BlackBerry I would just effortlessly scroll up to the line and the iPhone I can tap the screen and drag my finger to the line with a cool little magnifying glass type ordeal. I've noticed that on Android as well, but it seems to happen randomly because I don't know how to access it. Anytime I touch and hold I obviously get the menu. How would I do I access that magnifying feature so I can move my cursor to where I need it to be?

Cliff notes:

  1. Is there any way of auto correction in typing? (i.e. typing "dont" and getting "don't" or "i" and getting "I")
  2. How do I move my cursor to a different part of the text I'm typing with the little magnifying feature?

The stock Android keyboard would serve your needs. I don't think it's available by default on the Atrix however you can install one of a few Gingerbread keyboards available on the market to gain the functionality you're looking for.

I've been using this one for a while now; on my Atrix and my Captivate before it without any problems.

Having recently switched to the donate version I've found the extra features, while not necessary for full functionality, to be welcomed and well worth the price.

I've been using Swift Key you will need to download the language modules but once it learns the way you type it'll help you out a great deal.

I'm an ex-Iphone person to, and have found that Swift Key is the best key board for me to use.
