Just bought x

I just bought a DX and I am loving it. However I have a few questions.

For one what are some apps that you recommend for everyday use.

How does launcher pro work? Do I need it if I want to get the htc weather clock widget?

I just got handcent for messaging and I keep getting an aleart from both that and the standard messaging app. How can I get it so I only from handcent?

Thanks for the help :)

Welcome! Glad you're loving your X. I love mine too lol.
I would recommend trying out 'Go Launcher'. It's my go-to launcher now and I came from the paid version of LP. It's a lot better with customization and more stable.

Apps I use everyday:
handcent
Dolphin browser HD
Pandora
widgetlocker
beautiful widgets
alarm clock plus
Vignette
Wordfued

To stop getting two notifications go into the stock messaging apps and go to settings and uncheck the notifications box. What was happening is that both handcent and the stock app were notifying you for one message and since you can't get rid of the stock messaging app without breaking MMS then you can really only disable notifications.

You can get the HTC weather clock without a launcher it can be used on top of MotoBlur. I just uploaded it for another user but here it is again.

Hi and welcome!!! I hope you continue to love your DX. It is a great phone! I've had mine since launch day and I'm still addicted to it :)

U can also get the HTC style clock on Fancy Widget or Beautiful Widget which are both downloadable apps on market.

Apps I would recommend looking into are:
Smart Keyboard Pro -- This is SO much better than the stock keyboard and is also customizable with skins
Beautiful Widgets
Smooth Calendar
Pure Grid Calendar
Handcent SMS
Ringlert (this is a free ringtone app to download tones and edit)
ColorNote Notepad
Bonsai Blast (a fun game)
Paper Toss (another fun game)
SportsTap
Wheres My Droid
Barcode Scanner
PowerAMP Music Player
Gauge Battery Widget
TeslaLED Flashlight
Pandora Radio
WidgetLocker Lockscreen
Shazam
Angry Birds (VERY addicting game)

I'd also recommend heading over to www.appbrain.com where there is a lot of good info and reviews on apps that you can look into. There's also an app for appbrain.com so you can sync and manage your apps as well.

Hopefully I didn't toss too much at you...I love apps :) lol

Thanks both for all your help. I am overwhelmed with the different customizition tools. I am very excited to make this x look and feel how I want it. I have started to look into some apps you both and my friend suggested. It will take some time getting used to but so far this phone will be great :) I had to charge it 3 times yesterday because I just couldn't put it down. Does anyone suggest a nice case for it? I want it rubberizied but hard or maybe a carbon fiber one. I just don't want it to be bulky or have the tab on the back to hook it to things. Thanks again

I would second looking at Appbrain; it's easier to view on the large computer screen. Look at the ratings and number of downloads. Click the "Hot this week" and "All-time popular" tabs at the top, read the descriptions and comments, and download it if it seems interesting.
I tend to download only apps that are rated at least 4 stars.

I use the body glove rubberized case from verizon (i ended up getting it for free) and although slightly bulky, it gets the job done. It adds round corners making it slightly easier to hold and it grips well.
