I have had iPhone envy for years... years...
November of 2009, I got my 1st android phone (HTC Eris). Still had iPhone envy. I don't want to have to tinker with the phone. I want something that generally works out of the box. I want a front facing camera!
Black Friday of this year, I upgraded to the white Samsung Fascinate. It's lovely. I have not rooted it (not sure I need to). It works fine. The only 3 complaints I have are: no front facing camera, difficult to have a phone conversation outside when it's slightly (or worse) windy, and my Eris took much better pics than my SF. There is probably some way to adjust that but I don't know it.
I'm just too busy to have to research online how to make this thing work. I work, I go to school, and have family obligations. Having a phone that I don't have to tinker with is extremely desirable for me.
The poster that said that people don't care what the specs are of the non-iphone. He is right about that for me. Who cares if the SF can do 100 things better than the iphone if you don't know how to adjust the settings on the SF to make that happen. All of the potential in the world is not better than having something that will actually work for the average non-techie user.
What's worse for me is that I'm the techie in the family. I could give my SF to my husband and use his upgrade for the iphone but then he would be completely frustrated. Sigh.
