Just got a Captivate 2 days ago and having trouble with a couple things...

1.) Are there certain settings I can change to make my batter last longer? Any tips?

2.)When I receive a text message the text msg shows up on top above the notification bar for a brief few seconds... is there a way to stop that so people near my phone can't see the msg preview?

3.)Also when I receive a text msg, and unlock the phone, it opens right up into the text msg... is there a way to not have that happen as well?

THANKS for any help on these!!

Hey, welcome to the boards, and these are all easy to remedy. #1- The first one is obvious, don't abuse the phone, get a case and screen protectors. #2 - That notification is really too short for anyone to see what the message is, that and I don't think it even shows the entire message. I put a screen lock on (draw pattern) and that stops anyone from "seeing" anything. #3 - use the back button to get to your txt message list. This is the screen that would be before the homescreen. Annoying but that's what I do.

As for improving battery life, these phones are notorious for short battery life, but you can manage it. Use auto-brightness or turn your brightness down. I used to keep mine on max brightness and when I changed it to auto I noticed quite a bit more life. You can also tweak some settings depending on what you use a lot. Turn off WiFi, GPS, etc. check for apps that are excessively using the CPU.

If all else fails, get used to plugging it in whenever you can. I have a wall plug for my house, a car charger, and another wall charger for my bag.

for better battery...train it....means use it till its fully discharged and then charge 100% for atleast first 5-6 charging cycles....it might last for like 5-8 hrs in start but u will notice improvement later...

also calibrate ur battery...
