welcome to the android community!
i also have the Inspire and amazed at how much an android device can do.

some great apps to get you started can be:
Pandora (Internet Radio w/ customizable stations)
Google Goggles or Barcode Scanner (cool apps that can scan QR barcodes and other stuff)
Shazam or Soundhound (like a song on the radio but don't know the name? these apps can name the song for you!)
Angry Birds (duh)

those are just some of my faves so far. and they're free.
i'm still new to android myself so i'm sure the more experienced people can recommend even better apps.

The first thing I did was install FlyScreen and no lock, so that I can have widgets on my lockscreen. I also installed Handcent SMS (for emoji's) and YouMail (visual voicemail). JuiceDefender seems top notch, too.

I just got mine, too, so I'm still learning and playing. But those were fun. I haven't rooted yet, but I'm still learning. Don't bother with Terminal, it's nearly useless without rooting.

1. Set teamviewer up on your home pc and download the teamviewer app on your htc. You'll be able to control your home pc anywhere you go! Great for managing torrents or uploading files to a dropbox etc. see # 2.

2. Install dropbox on your htc nuff said!

3. Get Quick settings, it gives you access to hidden features if there are any. Such as wifi hotspot. They hid it on my optimus!

4. Get an app like juicedefender to help you save battery life. Works great for me

5. Advanced task killer! It's just like task manager on a pc nuff said!

6. Barcode scanner! It saved me an extra 100$!

7. Umm cant think of anything else right now

angry birds
Zedge (ringtones and wallpapers)
App 2 sd (lets you know what apps can be moved to your sd card)
3g watchdog or netcounter (both monitor data usage but net counter can monitor wifi usage and mobile network)
Make your clock (allows you to make your own clock widget)
Androidify (make your own lil android people)
Im also using launcher pro plus (costs $3 or you can get the free version, but paid allows you to use the widgets) I use this over the stock sense UI only because the dock is customizable and scrollable. Or check out adw launcher
Photaf for taking panaroma pics
Handcent to replace the stock text app, again more customizable (could also check out chompsms or go sms)

1&2 - He probably doesn't know what dropbox is.

5 - ATK does more damage than good

6 - at&t includes one for free on the inspire

task killers are pretty controversial stuff. i personally don't use one. but there are many android users who know how to use them well. theres a lot of articles on that topic all over these forums. but i'll let y'all find those cause thats a lotta digging. haha.

back on topic.
to the OP if you like games the Android market has tons of games. most are pretty lame but theres some quality ones in there
doodle jump
fruit ninja
papertoss
UnblockMe
glow hockey
tank hero
blow up
bejeweled 2

those are just ones i have... & yes i have a lot of free time to play all of those.. haha

What problems were you having with atk? What kind of damage are we talking about here?

Pre 2.2 it had some use but for 2.2 and above Android manages running apps perfectly fine on its own. Using a task killer will kill processes that are supposed to run and they'll restart and hurt your battery life.

The Three Keys to Android Enjoyment.

1) Learn what the Android mobile Operating system is & how to use it. Google is your friend.

2) Do _NOT_ use a task killer.

3) Learn what the Android mobile Operating system is & how to use it.

Yes I repeated myself, it's that important and not hard.

Once you've discovered all the great things it can do right out of the box.

Once you've learned how to actually use Android, you'll realize all the incorrect info "the experts" are telling you about your phone.

At this point _YOU_ will have the knowledge to know what you want to do based on how you use the phone.

I promise, if more people stopped being lazy & guessing instead of learning Android, they'd have loads of fun instead of trying to figure out problems caused by listening to unskilled Android owners.

It takes less time to learn Android, than to sort out problems from modifying it.

Cheers

wait about the task killers right now im using ATK and i feel like i have to use it...b4 i had a lot of apps running and shit and my phone started to be pretty slow and lag a lil then i killed apps in ATK and it started fast again...how do i stop running apps then cuz i had a good amount running

if you use watchdog lite it will show you what apps are running and how much CPU they are using. the widget will list CPU % usage, idle CPU% and # of apps in the background. I have 76 apps showing in my list on watchdog between the background apps/foreground apps/system apps (it will list the names in different colors, on mine blue is background, white is system and bright green is foreground) using only 2.3% CPU and i have no lag on my phone.

I have this app set to alert me to any app that goes over 30% be itself then I have the option to kill that app alone.

If you're a gamer, give Gun Bros a try. I can't believe it's a free game. It will definitely show off the screen and processing capabilities.

Not to steel the thread or nothing but what if I already installed a task killer? I uninstalled it a couple days ago. Have I already done damage to the OS?
