Condition your battery, but don't install a task killer.

Yea sure, don't install a task killer if you want a "faster" phone (by just a few seconds on some minor stuff, if even ^^... I've tested the difference... virtually none), but don't care about battery life.

As for battery life, I'd say get a task killer. If you don't, you will be lucky if your battery lasts 24 hours.

At the writing moment, my phone has been of the charger for over 65 hours and counting. It still got 35% juice left and the display has been on for 1 hour and 9 min, meaning plenty of use as a normal phone (i.e. messages, calling for 40 mins, etc), and syncing Gmail and having mobile data communications on constantly. I have the ATK "Advanced Task Killer Free" by ReChild, and use the auto-kill when the screen shuts off. This is saving me a BUTT load of battery. Before, only using the ATK every 4-6 hours gave me about 40 hours. Now I use the phone just as much as then, but the ATK runs maybe every 20 mins whenever I use the phone and lock it after.

So, go with what you want the most. If you want to use the smart phone to its full extent, don't get a task killer. But for me, I have the smart phone abilities there if I need them on the go. But I personally prefer a computer for browsing and writing emails, and listening to music I use my stereo system at home ^^. But when I'm out and feel like it, I have spotify installed :). Thus I use my phone mostly as a phone, and with the addition that my Gmail is constantly being checked (as being able to get contacted on the go means a lot for me as a student with various project, class assignments and rescheduling of lectures).

These are my thoughts at least. Enjoy your phone ;)

Task Killer really not needed imo, I get 2 days easy from my battery, gps/3g always on, screen brightness is at about 15%-20%, WifFi on most of the time aswell, I'll take a few pics, few calls, loads of texts, couple of games, Everything set to autosync every couple of hours or so, gmail syncs every 15mins, Didn't condition the battery either.

This is a joke, right? You have had 69 minutes of use out your phone in 65 hours? That's not "plenty of use". That's a paperweight.

If you have a usage surpassing a display on time of over 40 min a day, I'd seriously consider a rehab clinic for you... Are you really that dependent and addicted to your phone? It is just a phone. I know it is a smart phone, but that doesn't mean I have to use all of its cool functions just because I have to. I have them handy and ready when I need to use them on the go, otherwise I prefer a actual computer.

So yes, having a actual SCREEN ON time, of 1 hour and 20 minutes after 68.5 hours (and of them, only about 35-40 hours which I am awake), I'd say is more than sufficient usage for texting mainly. I don't use my phone for facebook, only to check my gmail if there are any important messages (if there are, I go to my computer if I have to reply). Other than that I use it to call (almost 1 hour now on this charge alone). And in that 1 hours, the screen is mostly OFF, as the HTC Sense UI turns the screen off when you have the phone to your head.

Seriously? I highly doubt that.

I wouldn't call myself a heavy user and with a conditioned battery and no task killer, wifi and 3G off for the most part, I struggle to get 36 hours. I installed a task killer and I got over 2 days.

Every day use
  • text
  • email
  • call
  • surf the web
  • take photos
  • play a game or two
  • google talk
  • listen to music
  • use google calendar for scheduling

Most days
  • wifi hotspot
  • file transfer via bluetooth
  • use as my calculator

I use my smartphone as it was intended. As a smartphone. It beggars belief that someone would spend the kind of money that the DHD costs (or would commit themselves to a contract) when a cheap Nokia could do everything you have outlined. Utterly pointless.

And to suggest that a task killer does anything other than slow down the system and drain your battery is simply disingenuous when you don't use your phone in any meaningful way.

Nah I just thought I would lie for absolutely no reason at all

Or exaggerate to prove a point.

Seriously, I know 3 or 4 people with the handset and based on their experiences and mine, that length of time against that amount of usage seems unbelievable.

Incidentally, I'm not saying it's a lie, I just find it very hard to believe.
