Just got my Otterbox Defender!

What other protector are you planning to add? When you're say you going to cut it, isn't it pre-cut already? Or are you going to trim it down within frame opening? In Defender, you have this separate "window" around notification/front camera which is not covered by plastic screen protector, I believe. I'm just guessing you are trimming it down to the main window opening? If so, not sure if its really necessary as long as your replacement screen protector pre-cut for Note 2. I would think it will be advantageous to have inner plastic case on top of your original protector to keep the edges down. Plus, once you remove inner plastic screen, you don't know how smooth the surface/edge is going to be and having screen protector layer underneath of it will be beneficial.

Again, I'm just making assumptions in here. I had Defender on with my other cheapo ebay screen protector underneath, and didn't notice any imprints or marks on it around the edges once I took it off.

I received my replacement Defender from Otterbox yesterday, put the phone in it yesterday evening. Looking at it now, still getting crap under the screen protector...guess I'll pop it out.

Get a hair dryer and blow it on the screen protector (with it off the phone ), slowly the glue will become soft and work the dryer around the screen. The entire cover will pop off as well as the glue should just peel off in one piece. No residue. Takes about 2 minutes and worth it as opposed to cutting or popping out and having the glue residue.

There's a few things someone reading this thread might want to consider:

1) Will removing the protector void the warranty for the case (which is outstanding, by the way)? Maybe, maybe not. Depends on what fails and if Otterbox sees it was removed in the damage photos you send.

2) The built-in screen protector is a bit unique in that it allows touch to work even if there are water droplets on the protector, while still allowing multitouch. I don't know of any other protector that allows this.

3) If you are having a problem with the built-in protector (and you haven't yet removed it), you may do well to contact Otterbox about it. They stand by their products (I know, because they've helped me out with an SGS3 Defender that is expanding and becoming loose, by offering a replacement).

Keep the screen protector, it can be reglued if needed.

Agree that OtteBox is realy good with customer service. The screen on the Note2 is so big there is more material in the screen protector and it sort of amplifies the oily wet spot look.

The only benefit of contacting them is to voice yet another dissatisfied opinion about their screen protector to get their R&D department attention to do something about it. Look at every single post in Android Forums or XDA forums or comments on Amazon. Every single one has a negative comment about screen protector, including the same issue with a replacement one they received. Its not a matter of a small batch of defective device, its a design flow. And I do agree with you that even a clean removal of the screen protector and then later super gluing it back if you need to send it out for any other related warranty replacements - can backfire. At the same time, based on their reputation, what are the odds of anything else breaking in there unless you are taking your phone out of the case on the daily/weekly basis? Plastic case (tabs) is the only thing I can think of giving up after a frequent locking/unlocking.

I have had OtterBox Defenders for previous phones and they have been nothing short of excellent so I think it will have to be the next accessory I buy!!

The defender was a beast and is huge. The screen protector was just a mess and the belt clip was pretty bulky. It is a great protector and probably will keep the phone safe from a nuclear attack, but for me the commuter works better and a bit less cumbersome

It seems like in asking the big red rep said yes but my internet searches have told me nothing...I have a bunch of black spots in the bottom right corner and there was a gap hen I initially got this case that went away just to leave a rainbow shimmer in the middle that moves when I touch it...any suggestions limitations of warranty and such?

That is the protector that you get. You can take a hair dryer to the thing and the glue will peel right off to remove. May box your warranty.

This is why i traded the defender for the commuter. Still great protection without the bulk and the pain in the butt protector. I am using my own zagg with the commuter and working fine.

In theory you have 1 yr warranty, and if it gets scratched I'm sure you can reason with Otterbox to send you replacement top part of the inner shell. From what I heard, their tech support is really good and they might even replace it for you after a year (and most likely you won't have your phone for more than 2yr anyway).

If I remember correctly awhile ago when I had my Defender for a few days, s-pen left marks on its screen protector to the point where even wiping it off didn't help. But the biggest problem was that annoying gap between screen protector and N2 display. I couldn't stand it. But overall, case was solid as a brick.

Its weird though, after some time the protector fit snug to the screen. However I took apart the case the other day to clean the inside from the black spots. They were inside near the center home and wiped off with ease. Now the screen is more gaped then ever and the case is put together correctly. I will see if it fits snug again. The issue here is I need the belt clip and protection this case offers, can do without the screen gap though...would otter exchange for a commuter? Or even cash back so I can get another case? Its frustrating to have spent this much on a case and not have researched well enough as I research every purchase so extensively! Anyone recommend a case that fits my criteria for protection and belt clip?

Other than Defender, the only other quality brand name cases with decent holster are from Seidio. Take a look at their Surface, Active, and upcoming Convert models. They also all come with a kickstand. Personally, those are not my cup of tea, but I have different requirements. I think when it comes to holster, Seidio is pretty good. I would also recommend a cheapo case I got from ebay for $7 (I think Page 5 of Best Cases thread), but after 2 months of use - inner silicone shell got stretched out and too much lint/dust gets inside. Regarding buying cases, why not shop with Amazon where you have hassle free returns within 30 days and no return shipping cost (as long as it's fulfilled by Amazon)? That is a beauty of it that you can buy, perhaps even a couple of different cases, compare them side-by-side, and keep the one that you like.
