Just got the 4.4.2 update..

Just unboxed my Nexus 7 (2012) yesterday which was on 4.2.1 then upgraded to 4.3 & then on to 4.4.2. Apparently the updates were being downloaded in the background. I never found the option that I could use to switch off the auto update operation to manual mode, like I have done on my Galaxy Ace & Grand Duo. Still observing, not doing much as I have not been able to get a screen guard & case yet.

I've read this sentence several times but I'm still not clear what option you're referring to. Can you elaborate?

Sorry my mistake. I should have phrased it better. 'I looked but never found the option that I could use to switch off the auto update operation to manual mode, like I have done on my Galaxy Ace & Grand Duo.'

To my knowledge, the only way to prevent updates is to sever your ties to Google's servers. However this will also kill your usage of their services like the play store.

> Moot point - MX Player is now updated :-)

I've found that I like VPlayer better. I'll keep both around in case one breaks in the future. It's nice to have a backup.

Indeed, choice is good :-)

When I originally tried Vplayer (not recently) and several other video players I had problems with some videos I have; MX Player was the only one that worked well with all off them so I stayed with it. In fact I got to like it so much I paid for the ad-free version even though I don't see the ads anyway on my rooted N7 - a good developer deserves rewarding for his efforts.

As a VLC user on every other platform I can only agree - and add that its a shame that VLC on Android is such a mess.

VLC was the first video player I tried on Android and it was a big disappointment... but MX Player has made up for it :-)

MX player update came through last night and it's now working perfectly on 4.4.2 for me.

Had the same issue after upgrading to 4.4.1 but it was fixed within a day, so the devs know what's up.
