Just got to play with an Evo for a few hours

well hopefully it will be rooted soon after release and we can just use apps2sd.

I have not held the HD2, but knowing the Evo is slightly thicker does make me thing the HD2 would feel a tad better. But the Evo isn't thick, really, it's maybe a millimeter or two thicker than the N1?

The Incredible's internal storage cannot accomodate the programs from what I've heard. It actually is separate memory that, when you plug it into a computer, shows up as a separate drive like your SD card.

At least, that's what I hear. The actual memory for apps is much smaller.

The entire front is glass, and very pretty. Buttons work great. The back is very flat against the innards when on, so it's solid and not hollow feeling. It's flimsy when off, but that's ok, because it is always on your phone anyway. To me, feels better than the Hero, slightly less so than the N1 because of its size, not build quality. Excellent build quality to me.
 
the size of the phone is relative to the size of the person's hands, so remember when you ask that question if the answer is "the phone is Huge" it might not apply if the guy is 5'7" and you are 6'1". I've held an HD2 and that phone felt very large to me, especially with a silicone case, but I don't have large hands.

I'm kind of wondering how the Evo form factor was when holding it with one hand. Did you find it easy to navigate, type and press buttons using only one hand? this can also be relative to hand size obv (maybe you should just tell us your height lol)

Also, what did you think about the build quality of the kickstand? Did it seem durable?

You know google will fix that soon...probably with froyo...I'm kinda bummed about that too, I was hoping to get more memory under the hood as well. I have a N1 rooted and even with apps2sd I would rather the phone carried the app memory weight while my microsd card carried the bulk of my personal stuff like pics, music etc...
 
I don't think anybody really understands why I want that extra internal storage. For the work I do, I need to carry around HIGH quality videos to view and that extra storage would make my life SO convenient.

Could you not just get a larger SD card? or even multiple sd cards?

The incredible comes with 8gig internal and a 2gig sd card.

The EVO comes with none internal but an 8gig sd card, so the incredible only comes with 2 more gig at purchase (if you get one that has an sd card).

I already have a 16gb card for my Touch Pro, so I'm not so much worried about that part. The incredible's sd card is upgradable to 16gb. You guys really aren't understanding the importance of that extra 8gb and how important that would be for me to separate work stuff from personal stuff.

Well, im more than sure to keep the price down, they had to make a cut somewhere. And the internal storage was where they had to cut the fat. I have never filled my 8gb card in my tour anyways.
 
Once we can store apps to microSD and microSD prices come down, a lot of the memory concerns will be gone. It would have been too co$tly to drop huge storage in right now and adding another $70-100 for storage (cause they would have had to pre-buy 16gb cards a while ago to have them ready for the upcoming launch) would have been a huge mistake.

I still think it's amazing that Evo's priced where it is. Years ago, my Razr cost more than $199 at launch with contract. And think of how this $199 even with rebate is going to set a hurdle for other phones. The people in Cupertino have to be flat-out shocked and mad 'cause intro'ing a new iPhone at $199 probably wasn't what they were thinking.

MY TP was $249, so to think that the EVO is cheaper is a good sign of Sprint moving in the right direction.
 
well if you think about the SD card compared to the incredible:

internal 8gig - interchangeable up to 16gb - 24gb MAX
EVO - up to 32gig card...

Yeah, I thought about that too, but do we really win? Retail for the 32gb, class 2 microSD is $199 (same price as EVO). Retail for a 16gb, class 6 microSD is in the 50-60 range. A class 2 16gb microSD is in the $30-40 range.

And from what I've been reading, consensus seems to feel that an OTA update would enable the 32gb microSD to work with the Incredible (although, that wasn't from any detailed research I did, just skimming/browsing).
 
I don't know.. hell I barely have anything in my 2gig card :D yes.. I am that lame :D

ETA: I think the 32gig card will drop in price once this phone hits and the demand for the card rises :) just my opinion tho

From what I understand, the Incredible has the standard onboard memory, plus Micro SD, PLUS an additional amount of onboard memory that isn't extremely usable by the system (eg: for apps). So an Evo with a 16bg memory card is the same as an Incredible with 8gb onboard and an 8gb SD. right?

If you think the HD2 is large, this phone is slightly thicker, so it will be as large or larger feeling. I'm 6'0" and have fairly big hands. For me, though, the phone is very easy to hold and navigate with one hand. Typing with one hand, however, might be a little harder to do without your one hand inadvertently touching random parts of the screen.

The kickstand opens almost like it was hydraulic. It's metal, but I can't speak for it's hinge, which is probably plastic. Seems like it would be pretty durable, but if bent when open, might snap. What sucks is it's built into the back of the phone itself, so if it breaks, you can't just replace the back case...

Maybe get a large Micro SD card. It will likely be faster than the internal Android will soon recognize a full 32gb one too.

Also, the Evo's processor is more powerful than the Pre's (at least on an actual end-result comparison, such as rendering web pages). Maybe that's also why the Evo is so fast. I know it will load pages MUCH faster than my Hero, with both on 3G.
