I got my phone for free so obviously the specs aren't going to be the same though I can over clock my phone up to or even past the iPhone's with the OS. It's all about the OS anyway. Atleast 90% of it is.

By the way, I forgot to mention this. iPhone OS is on Version 4 soon. Android OS is on 2.2, I wonder why yours is more "polished" and "nicer" with "less bugs."
Just imagine if Android was on Version 4. And don't say that 2.0 OS was better because it wasn't. I had an iPod Touch with 2.0 and it had a lot of bugs. Way more than Android does now.

I don't know where he got that reasoning from because apple registered the domain name "iPhone.com" in 1999 which means it was already in design and stuff. So Apple had about a 5 year head start and Android is beating it... Hmmm....
I absolutely know that, but, since the person doing the Android boasting has an Eris, it's worth the argument.
Don't get me wrong - I like the Eris; I wouldn't buy an iPhone over Android at this point. But this isn't a war; no one platform has to win. If somebody thinks that Android is better for them, why must it be better for everybody? Since I have nothing but Macs, I have a MobileMe account, I could certainly argue that the iPhone would be perfect for me. There's just that pesky issue of it not being on Verizon Wireless ... Now, having invested this much on Android, I'm not planning to move.
Still, I think that even we Android users owe Apple a huge thanks for showing enough people that excellent smartphones with productive software that weren't crippled by the carriers was something that could be very profitable for everybody involved (including we users.) It wasn't very long ago that even WM smartphones on Verizon were loaded down with their crappy bloatware (like vcast), crippled bluetooth and supported specialized ringtones only when you paid them for each use. It was the iPhone that changed all of this.
Oh, I thought of one more thing that the iPhone can do - voice dial over bluetooth. And cut/copy within the email app. (Not to mention that cut/copy on Android is pretty crappy by comparison with the iPhone.)
As I said, both have strengths and weaknesses, and, thankfully, plenty of strengths at that.
You can never convince an Apple fanboi, ever. If Apple were to come out and say that 5+5=50, they would believe it. No matter how many times you showed them right in front of their faces that you have five fingers on each hand for a total of ten fingers. They will not accept anything except what Apple says and what they release.

I'm not saying that Apple doesn't make good software/hardware. I'm just saying that when there are better things out you shouldn't be telling people that yours is better because it has the "holy apple logo" on it. I have a Macbook Pro and I bought it last year. A laptop with a 8+ hour battery life and a 2.6GHz dual core processor is amazing, especially for last year.
The thing is though, that the iPhone is overhyped due to especially the media and that drags in more "fanbois" who come in forums like these and are "l1k3 z0mg apple=god. I wantz stevie jobs to be my father!"

Yes, Apple started developing the software for the iPhone in 2004, whereas android started being developed in 2003.
Have you actually read up on what's coming?
Being able to send a webpage from your browser to your phone screen.
Being able to send a webpage to your android TV screen from your phone.
Being able to voice control your TV using your Android Phone.
Being able to install an app OTA by selecting install from your Desktop browser.
I could go on, but at this point, the features coming out for Android leave Apple so far in the dust, it's hard to tell if they are even still back there.

the issue at hand is android vs. iphone. The eris is a lower end android phone. If you were to compare the incredible with an iphone, incredible wins every time as far as the specs are concerned. But like I said the discussion is android vs. iphone OS.
clearly we need the following to conclude this debate
1) latest iPhone(hardware) running latest Android software
2) latest Android (hardware) running latest iPhone OS
test to include the following.
a) call quality (it's still a phone after all.)
b) functionality (multitasking, speed, whether or not it "just works")
c) reality (battery life, useful apps, cost of ownership)
may the best software win!

There's quite a bit of animosity between iPhone users and Android users. The point that's missed it that they're two totally different OSs and are preference. I've used both and prefer Android for it's customization capabilities. I hate being limited and the iPhone is very limited without spending a small fortune. The Android Market is full of great stuff. Some people, however, prefer the iphone. Although, from what I've seen, most of the people using it are into it more for its notability. Its a shame since the iphone is a decent device functionally, just not for me. Basic point here is, each are good in their own way and its pointless to argue over which is better. Apples and Oranges-excuse the pun.

Apple is the king of interface and integration. Their stuff just works, it works together, and it works well. Their interfaces are beautiful and simple to use. Their innovation when it comes to use-cases is outstanding.
However, Google is....for lack of a better description.....f-ing crazy. They are a bunch of geniuses who do stuff just to prove that they can. They're taking over the world and they'd have a Google satellite spying on everything Apple does in a heartbeat if they so desired. Google's interfaces to their apps are not pretty, but they do crazy stuff that you never thought possible. It's only a matter of time before Google figures out that most consumers only care how pretty a product is. Android 3.0 and 4.0 and beyond are gonna be able to do some crazy crap and will look beautiful and will seriously give the iPhone OS a run for it's money. It'll be faster, more efficient, and run on all sorts of different hardware for way cheap.
I personally hope neither Google nor Apple wins, as that breeds amazing competition. But as I see it Apple is an amazing CE (consumer electronics) company, but Google is seriously in their own league when it comes to seeing into the future and shaping the future of not only consumer electronics, but technology and data as we know it. Google seriously kind of scares me.
For example, this whole Google navigation thing. It may single handedly put Garmin out of the mainstream GPS navigation market. It's always accurate, integrates with Google maps, and is totally free. Google does crazy crap all the time, and it's free!!!

I agree that Google is headed by the innovators of new technology, but to speculate that their stuff will ever be "pretty," I'm still banking on not. I have seen hundreds of Google products, and have yet to see anything on the cutting edge of design. I believe they are minimalists when it comes to design, whereas Apple is all about design. Apple products are beautiful in UI and always capitalize on the whiz bang factor.
It doesn't even matter what they do better, they dazzle you with fluid motion and eye candy that sends your brain to mush, leaves a stain in your pants, and makes you think you absolutely have to have that product in order to continue breathing. Jealousy of their product, even when it isn't technologically superior is natural.
Google appeals to the other half of our brain (the geek side). They present us with applications that are bleeding edge, cross the line we never thought existed, and keep us on the edge of our seats for what's coming next, but it comes at a cost for being the beta testers of this new technology, whereas Apple comes at you with the finished product (in most cases).
They both have their strengths, and I have seen my buddy's iPhone in action quite a few times, and they run circles around the Droid in UI experience. And don't be fooled by the hype, they really aren't that far behind us. I typically find my buddy has 99% of the apps I have.
After using my phone for some time now, I'm not so sure multitasking is all that exciting. I find it irritating at best when your phone becomes so laggy that you can't make a phone call or when you have to constantly keep checking your task killer to see what's running.
When it comes to iPhone vs. Android, it all just depends on personal preference. iPhone is a decent enough phone, but it doesn't have the things that I want. I've long been a Google whore (been using gmail since it was first released years ago and will always love it). I love being able to have gmail and Google talk at my fingertips, two apps that I use heavily and are extremely reliable. That paired with skype mobile have made keeping in contact with my husband in Iraq a dream. Obviously I think Android is a better system, but that's partly because it's made for me.
That and after their newest iPod nano (which I purchased), I will probably never buy an Apple product for a very long time, if I ever do. They heavily advertised it to people like me who exercise and run heavily and frequently, yet put the controls on the headphones knowing that sweat would get into it. Once the headphones malfunction, the iPod is completely useless. This has been a widespread problem that Apple has refused to acknowledge, yet they still continue to advertise it in the same manner. It's enough to irritate me.

Apple has an amazing marketing machine. They've managed to make their brand synonymous with "hip" and "trendy" and let's be honest. The majority of Iphone user's (not people on this forum who are somewhat educated about phone tech) got the IPhone because they thought it was "cool" or because their friend had it, not necessarily because of the features alone. The thing about Apple that just really makes me dislike them however, is their walled garden approach. The war will be won ,as it always is, with our wallets. Consumers like the freedom to choose and Apple likes presiding over user's experiences with an iron fist. Apple = Proprietary brand restriction, Google = Freedom. I believe this will be the deciding factor in the Apple vs Google saga. Oh and let's not forget Apple's ego maniacal ways. The company has its collective head shoved so far up its ass that they can't even take a joke. The Ellen Degeneres fake Iphone commercial and subsequent apology ring a bell?
