Just rooted - No superuser?

Squiggy

I installed the Sprint 2.1 leak RUU and then rooted. Probably backwards, but everything has been working great for the past few days regardless. My problem is when I try to use something like Titanium Backup. I get a message saying that "busybox works but the "su" command does not elevate to root" It goes on to say my superuser whitelist system app does not work. I tried to install the superuser whitelist app from the market but it said it was incompatible with my phone.

What can I do now to get Superuser privileges?

because the RUU doesn't have SuperUser.apk maybe? try pushing it to /system/app

I tried that, but got a message saying:
"failed to copy 'superuser.apk' to 'system/app/superuser.apk' : Read-only file system"

Root Explorer says the app folder is read-only, and doesn't look like I can change it...

that means your phone is not rooted...which RUU did you use? there's two I believe...

one with root access and one that doesn't have root access..

why use that RUU though? why not root your phone through 1.5 first..

then flash a 2.1 ROM that's based on the pre 2.1 leak? that would solve all the hassle the RUU is going to give you...

you jumped in a pool full of piranhas without knowing they was there..

I enjoy life on the edge. What steps do you suggest I take to get myself properly rooted and on a latest-greatest ROM?

Edited: I did get pre-kitchen to push the superuser.apk to system/app/

I agree with DFRESH, rooting with a 1.5 Rom, then flashing to a 2.1 rom should be the answer...http://androidforums.com/all-things-root-sprint-hero/38911-guide-root-rom-faq-tutorial.html has a lot of answers for rooting, and their are alot of roms to choose from, just find some that you think you want, most will list their features including superuser, and flash them...just make a nandroid backup before you flash so you can restore to your last safe point...

and I still laugh when I see your avatar, DFRESH...classic

why use the pre-kitchen when you can use Fresh Kitchen 1.0.5?

Decided to wipe, restore to 1.5 and flash Fresh 2.0d. Reinstalled Titanium backup to check if I was rooted, and magically (ok, probably not magically, but still...) saw the whitelist ask for su permissions for Titanium. Everything's been hopping along quite nicely since then.
